    Författare :Xia Shen; Örjan Carlborg; Lars Rönnegård; William Hill; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; statistical genetics; quantitative trait loci; genome-wide association study; genomic selection; genetic variance; hierarchical generalized linear model; linear mixed model; random effect; heteroscedastic effects model; variance-controlling genes; Complex Systems – Microdata Analysis;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis develops and evaluates statistical methods for different types of genetic analyses, including quantitative trait loci (QTL) analysis, genome-wide association study (GWAS), and genomic evaluation. The main contribution of the thesis is to provide novel insights in modeling genetic variance, especially via random effects models. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Genetic Heteroscedasticity for Domestic Animal Traits

    Författare :Majbritt Felleki; Erling Strandberg; Lars Rönnegård; Ole Fredslund Christensen; Högskolan Dalarna; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Quantitative genetics; genetic heteroscedasticity of residuals; genetic heterogeneity of environmental variation; genetic heterogeneity of residual variance; double hierarchical generalized linear models; teat count in pigs; litter size in pigs; milk yield in cows; somatic cell count in cows; Complex Systems – Microdata Analysis; Komplexa system - mikrodataanalys;

    Sammanfattning : Animal traits differ not only in mean, but also in variation around the mean. For instance, one sire’s daughter group may be very homogeneous, while another sire’s daughters are much more heterogeneous in performance. The difference in residual variance can partially be explained by genetic differences. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Genetic diversity and differentiation in natural and managed stands of Norway spruce (Picea abies)

    Författare :Helena Eklöf; Pär K. Ingvarsson; Xiao-Ru Wang; Carolina Bernhardsson; Katri Kärkkäinen; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Norway spruce; Picea abies; forestry; genetic diversity; seed orchards; forest management; WGS; GBS; sequencing; PoolSeq; capture probes; genetic differentiation;

    Sammanfattning : Being one of Sweden’s most important tree species, both as a keystone species and for the forest industry, it is important that we keep our stands of Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) as healthy as possible. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Population differentiation in Lythrum salicaria along a latitudinal gradient

    Författare :Katarina Olsson; Jon Ågren; Susan Kalisz; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; additive genetic variance; clinal variation; evolutionary constraints; G matrix; genetic correlation; natural selection; pollen limitation; population differentiation; Ekologi; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi; ekologisk botanik; Ecological Botany;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, quantitative genetic approaches, common-garden experiments, and field studies were combined to examine patterns of population differentiation and the genetic architecture of characters of putative adaptive significance in the widely distributed perennial herb Lythrum salicaria. In this work, I (1) documented patterns of population differentiation in phenology, life-history, and morphology along latitudinal gradients at different geographical scales, (2) investigated the genetic architecture of phenology, flower morphology, and inflorescence size, and (3) combined estimates of phenotypic selection in the field with information on the genetic variance-covariance matrix (G) to examine potential constraints to adaptive evolution. 5. 5. Sexual conflict, sexual selection, and genetic variance in fitness

    Författare :Karl Grieshop; Göran Arnqvist; David Berger; Jacek Radwan; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Biologi med inriktning mot zooekologi; Biology with specialization in Animal Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : Understanding sex-specific genetic variance for fitness is of fundamental importance to our understanding of evolution. This thesis presents the findings of empirical investigations into sex-specific genetic variance in fitness. LÄS MER
