1. Mooring dynamics for wave energy applications
Sammanfattning : This work aims to increase the modelling accuracy of two important problems for the wave energy industry. One concerns the mooring dynamics in the presence of snap loads (shock waves in cable tension). The other is related to nonlinear effects in the resonance region of moored wave energy converters (WECs). LÄS MER
2. Non-Linear Spatio-Temporal Dynamics of Optical Beams and Pulses in Kerr and Ionizable Media
Sammanfattning : The present thesis includes results of several investigations concerning the propagation of optical pulses in optical fibers and spatio-temporal beams in optical Kerr media and ionizable media. Both numerical and analytical methods play an important role in the investigations. LÄS MER
3. Direct Calculation of Wave-Induced Loads and Fatigue Damage of Container Vessels
Sammanfattning : Container ships and their rules for fatigue design are in several ways differentcompared with other types of commercial ships such as tankers and bulk carriers. Forexample, most modern container ships have a pronounced bow flare and an overhangstern. LÄS MER
4. Numerical Investigation of Rotating and Stratified Turbulence
Sammanfattning : Atmospheric and oceanic flows are strongly affected by rotation and stratification. Rotation is exerted through Coriolis forces which mainly act in horizontal planes whereas stratification largely affects the motion along the vertical direction through buoyancy forces, the latters related to the vertical variation of the fluid density. 5. On millimeter and submillimeter wave focal plane arrays implemented with MEMS waveguide switches
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents research towards enabling micromachined millimeter and submillimeter wave focal plane arrays (FPAs). The FPAs operate under the following principle: a switch network consisting of microelectromechanical (MEMS) switches, integrated with micromachined waveguides, is used to feed an array of antenna elements, located in the focal plane of a high-gain quasi-optical system.
