21. Influence of Genes and Post-translational Modifications in the Pathogenesis of Light Chain Amyloidosis
Sammanfattning : Amyloid is formed when a normally soluble protein undergoes conformational changes that results in self-aggregation. The pathogenic protein in light chain amyloidosis is an immunoglobulin light chain produced by a plasma cell clone mainly in the bone marrow. LÄS MER
22. Interactions between dietary chicory, gut microbiota and immune responses
Sammanfattning : This thesis provides a better understanding of interactions between diet, gut microbiota, and immune responses to a specific dietary fiber source, chicory (Cichorium intybus L). This was achieved by examining the impact of chicory fiber on animal performance, digestibility, gut development, commensal bacteria community structure in small and large intestine, and follow-up reactions with specific immune components, cytoprotective heat shock protein (HSP) 27 and 72, in vivo and in vitro. 23. Measurements of the 234U(n,f) Reaction with a Frisch-Grid Ionization Chamber up to En=5 MeV
Sammanfattning : This study on the neutron-induced fission of 234U was carried out at the 7 MV Van de Graaff accelerator of IRMM in Belgium. A Twin Frisch-Grid Ionization Chamber (TFGIC) was used to study 234U(n,f) between En = 0.2 and 5.0 MeV. LÄS MER
24. Seaweed Invasions and Novel Chemical Defences
Sammanfattning : Biological invasions pose a risk to the biodiversity and the functioning of ecosystems in invaded areas. The reasons why some introduced species become dominant and widespread in their new environments is still largely an unsettled question. LÄS MER
25. Structure and Dynamics of Membrane Associated Peptides
Sammanfattning : The peptide-membrane interaction is a key element for many biological functions, from cell signaling to cell internalization. In this thesis the peptide-membrane interaction of six different peptides have been studied with respect to their structure, membrane location and dynamics with spectroscopic methods. LÄS MER
