1. Post-transplantation Hypercholesterolaemia
Sammanfattning : The multidrug regimen, cyclosporine, corticosteroids, and azathioprine, is used in transplantation centres to prevent organ rejection. Several clinical studies have shown that cyclosporine and corticosteroids to cause increases in low density lipoprotein (LDL)-cholesterol, with subsequent development of atherosclerosis. LÄS MER
2. Roles of the transient receptor potential channels and the intracellular Ca2+ channels in Ca2+ signaling in the beta-cells
Sammanfattning : Previous studies from our group reported that pancreatic β-cells express ryanodine receptors (RyRs) that can mediate Ca2+-induced Ca2+ release (CICR). The full consequences of the activation of RyRs on Ca2+ signaling in these cells, however, remained unclear. LÄS MER
3. Development of Palladium-Promoted 11C/12C-Carbonylations and Radiosynthesis of Amyloid PET Ligands
Sammanfattning : In the first part of this thesis, palladium(0)-catalyzed and -mediated carbonylations are discussed. Paper I describes a new method for the safe, efficient use of a solid carbon monoxide source in the synthesis of primary and secondary benzamides. LÄS MER
4. GLIAL HEMICHANNELS: A NEW ROUTE FOR CHEMICAL COMMUNICATION IN BRAIN
Sammanfattning : The extracellular neurochemistry determines normal brain function and the faith of neurons after insults such as stroke. This thesis concerns the effect of extracellular events related to intense neuronal stimulation and stroke, i.e. LÄS MER
5. Ion channels and intrinsic membrane properties of locomotor network neurons in the lamprey spinal cord
Sammanfattning : NMDA-receptor dependent membrane potential oscillations and postinhibitory rebound are examples of intrinsic membrane properties of many neurons of rhythm-generating networks, and are considered to play major roles in the operation of the spinal locomotor network of the lamprey vertebrate model. A significant feature of many lamprey spinal cord neurons is their ability to generate pacemaker-like membrane potential oscillations in the presence of the glutamate agonist NMDA. LÄS MER
