  1. 1. Protein tyrosine kinases and the regulation of signalling and adhesion in drosophila melanogaster

    Författare :Caroline Grabbe; Ruth Palmer; Tapio Heino; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Drosophila; Signalling; Adhesion; Protein Tyrosine Kinase; Development; Endocytosis; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : In order to build a multi-cellular organism and to regulate cellular functions, cells need to communicate with each other, as well as tightly regulate their behaviour in response to environmental changes. For these purposes all eukaryotic cells express a large number of membrane spanning receptors that either themselves contain catalytic activity or via cytoplasmic effector enzymes, function to transmit “signals” from the cell exterior to induce appropriate responses within the cell. 2. 2. Gastric gland luminal pressure and mucosal protection : An in vivo study in the anesthetized rat

    Författare :Ingrid Synnerstad; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology and anatomy; acid secretion; bicarbonate; epithelial cell surface pH; gastric gland; muscularismucosa; micropuncture; mucosal blood flow; mucus gel thickness; omeprazole; permeability; prostaglandins; ranitidine; rat; Fysiologi och anatomi; Physiology and pharmacology; Fysiologi och farmakologi; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The driving force for creation of channels in gastric mucus, for acid and pepsin transport, ismost probably the hydrostatic pressure generated within the gastric gland lumen. The aim ofthis study was to investigate the origin and regulation of the glandular pressure. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Pneumococcal pili and other cell surface properties affect the infection biology of Streptococcus pneumoniae

    Författare :Johannes Ries; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The pneumococcus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, is a major respiratory tract disease causing pathogen with an estimated mortality of 1-2 million per year worldwide. It is the most common bacterial cause of sinusitis, otitis media and community acquired pneumonia and also a major cause of invasive diseases such as septicaemia and meningitis. LÄS MER

  4. 4. In vitro characterization of nanodrugs at model lipid membranes

    Författare :Rickard Frost; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; in vitro screening; nanomedicine; drug delivery; drug carrier; supported lipid bilayer; QCM-D; nanoparticle; cell membrane;

    Sammanfattning : The use of nano-sized drug carriers to improve the efficiency of drug delivery has become well established during the past decades. New nanoparticle (NP) formulations for the administration of biopharmaceuticals (e.g. proteins and peptides) emerge at an increasing rate and the need for methods to evaluate their properties is expanding. 5. 5. Studies of Vibrio cholerae toxins (zonula occludens toxin and hemagglutinin/protease) and their effects on epithelial cells

    Författare :Zhengyang Wu; Åsa Ljung; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Intestinal epithelium is important for absorption of nutrients and for defense against harmful substances in the gut. The permeability and barrier functions of epithelia are mainly controlled by intercellular tight junctions. LÄS MER
