Sammanfattning : This thesis presents an analysis of crime trends and social control during the dramatic transformation of Sweden's social landscape in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, set against the background of the modernization process in the country as a whole and the city of Sundsvall and environs in particular. What assumptions about crime were evident in public debate? How did crime levels vary from region to region, and what were the changes over time? What strategies did government and local authorities try for combating crime? Did the joint efforts by government, local communities, and the voluntary sector actually solve the problems that social change was believed to have caused?When it comes to theory, the interpretative framework is based on Anthony Giddens's argument about modernity and modernization, making particular use of a few central points about what the changes meant for the structuration of society. 3. Evaluation of a Swedish parental prevention program : youth drunkenness, alcohol-specific parenting and gender differences
Sammanfattning : Background: Research suggests that alcohol-specific parenting and parental prevention programs can be effective in the efforts to prevent underage drinking. The Örebro prevention program (ÖPP) is based on principles of alcohol-specific parenting and encourages parents to maintain restrictive attitudes towards underage drinking, with the aim to reduce youth drinking and drunkenness. 5. Preventing underage alcohol drinking through working with parents
Sammanfattning : An evaluation is reported of an alcohol prevention program that targets parents in order to decrease drinking among 13-16 year-olds. The evaluation was performed in a quasi-experimental study with a matched control group and annual assessments, directed at youths and their parents independently, in a longitudinal intention-to-treat design.
