  1. 6. Wave Splitting and Effective Boundary Conditions for Structural Elements

    Författare :Martin Johansson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; approximate boundary condition; Mindlin plate; Timoshenko beam; thin plates; cylindrical coordinates; series approximation; wave splitting; dispersion; fluid-loaded plate; Biot;

    Sammanfattning : The subject of this thesis is twofold. The first part concerns the wave splitting of structural elements. The second part concerns approximate boundary conditions for fluid-loaded thin plates. Wave splitting is a mathematical tool for the formulation of scattering problems in the time domain that aims at solving inverse problems, e. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Computational modeling of biological barriers

    Författare :Christian Wennberg; Erik Lindahl; Thomas Cheatham; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular dynamics; cholesterol; lipid bilayer; permeability; long-range interactions; Lennard-Jones; dispersion; particle-mesh Ewald; stratum corneum; skin formation; Biological Physics; Biologisk fysik;

    Sammanfattning : One of the most important aspects for all life on this planet is the act to keep their biological processes in a state where they do not reach equilibrium. One part in the upholding of this imbalanced state is the barrier between the cells and their surroundings, created by the cell membrane. LÄS MER

  3. 8. On Distribution Coefficients in Aquatic Systems

    Författare :Håkan Johansson; Bert Allard; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earth sciences; Distribution coefficient; lake; modelling; morphometry; stream; Geovetenskap; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot miljöanalys; Earth Science with specialization in Environmental Analysis;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, different types of chemical and physical distribution coefficients are identified, examined and used to describe the fate and transport pathways of substances in aquatic systems.Observations from field experiments in streams with non-reactive and reactive tracers constituted the basis for development of an advection-dispersion model. 4. 9. Transport Coefficients during Drying of Solids containing Multicomponent Mixtures

    Författare :Rafael Gamero; Joaquín Martínez; Evangelos Tsotsas; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; capillary; conduction; convection; diffusion; evaporation; heat transfer; hydraulic conductivity; liquid film; liquid transport; mass transfer; Maxwell-Stefan diffusion coefficients; molar fluxes; phase equilibrium; temperature gradient; ternary mixture; thermodynamic factors; Chemical engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : This study investigated the transport coefficients involved in mass and heat transfer during the drying of a porous solid partially saturated with multicomponent mixtures.  It included the coefficients governing liquid transport through the solid, the matrix of multicomponent diffusion coefficients in the liquid phase, and the effective thermal conductivity. 5. 10. Lateral mixing of solids in bubbling fluidized beds – experimental quantification

    Författare :Erik Sette; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; solids cross-flow; lateral dispersion; Solids mixing; fluid-dynamic scaling;

    Sammanfattning : For solid fuels, thermochemical conversion processes such as combustion and gasification are especially suitable to be carried out in fluidized bed units because of the relatively high mixing rates, fuel flexibility and the possibility to use active bed material to enhance process efficiency. Fuels such as biomass and waste, which are commonly used in fluidized beds, are characterized by volatile contents much higher than what is found in fossil fuels such as coal. LÄS MER
