    Sammanfattning : The neuropeptide Y (NPY) system consists of 3-4 peptides and 4-7 receptors in vertebrates. It has powerful effects on appetite regulation and is involved in many other biological processes including blood pressure regulation, bone formation and anxiety. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Conifer Evolution, from Demography and Local Adaptation to Evolutionary Rates : Examples from the Picea genus

    Författare :Jun Chen; Martin Lascoux; Ulf Lagercrantz; Matt Olson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Speciation; Demographics; clinal variation; convergent evolution; transcriptome; small regulatory RNA; Biologi med inriktning mot evolutionär funktionsgenomik; Biology with specialization in Evolutionary Functional Genomics; Biology with specialization in Evolutionary Genetics; Biologi med inriktning mot evolutionär genetik;

    Sammanfattning : Evolutionary process can be inferred at three different levels: the species level, the population level and the molecular level. In this thesis, I applied approaches at these three levels and aimed to get a comprehensive picture of conifer evolution, from speciation and demography to geographic variation and local adaptation, and then to the molecular evolution of proteins and small regulatory RNAs. 3. 3. Population Genetics and Genome Organization of Norway Spruce

    Författare :Hanna Larsson; Martin Lascoux; Bruno Fady; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Picea abies; demographic history; linkage disequilibrium; HMPR; Biologi med inriktning mot evolutionär funktionsgenomik; Biology with specialization in Evolutionary Functional Genomics;

    Sammanfattning : Understanding the underlying genetic causes of adaptation to local conditions is one of the main goals of population genetics. A strong latitudinal cline in the phenotypic trait of bud set is observed in present day populations of Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst). LÄS MER

  4. 4. Conservation Genetics and Speciation in Asian Forest Trees

    Författare :Sofia Bodare; Martin Lascoux; Ulf Lagercrantz; François Lefèvre; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Biologi med inriktning mot evolutionär funktionsgenomik; Biology with specialization in Evolutionary Functional Genomics;

    Sammanfattning : Tropical forests are important because they are the home of millions of species at the same time as they perform ecosystem services and provide food, cash income and raw materials for the people living there. The present thesis elucidates questions relevant to the conservation of selected forest trees as it adds to the knowledge in the phylogeny, population structure, genetic diversity and adaptation in these species. 5. 5. Studies on Natural Variation and Evolution of Photoperiodism in Plants

    Författare :Karl Holm; Ulf Lagercrantz; Martin Lascoux; Seth Jon Davis; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :photoperiodism; circadian; flowering time; natural variation; evolution; Caspella bursa-pastoris; Physcomitrella patens; Biologi med inriktning mot evolutionär funktionsgenomik; Biology with specialization in Evolutionary Functional Genomics;

    Sammanfattning : Photoperiodism refers to the organism’s ability to detect and respond to seasonal changes in the daily duration of light and dark and thus constitutes one of the most significant and complex examples of the interaction between the organism and its environment. This thesis attempts to describe the prevalence of variation in a photoperiodic response, its adaptive value, and its putative genetic basis in a common cruciferous weed, Capsella bursa-pastoris (Brassicaceae).
