  1. 11. Predictors of long-term glycemic control, pancreatic function and BMI trajectory in children with type 1 diabetes

    Författare :Annika Grönberg; Per-Ola Carlsson; Anders Forslund; Klas Ekström; Gun Forsander; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Endokrinologi och Diabetologi; Endocrinology and Diabetology; Pediatrik; Pediatrics;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The maintenance of normal metabolic control underpins all management of insulin dependent diabetes whether in terms of preserved beta-cell function, body composition, or family support. The hypothesis of this work was that preserved C-peptide predicts better glycemic control and lowers risk of severe hypoglycemia. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Infections in the central nervous system with focus on meningococcal disease : clinical and epidemiological aspects

    Författare :Olof Säll; Paula Mölling; Sara Thulin Hedberg; Martin Sundqvist; Magnus Rasmussen; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; CNS infection; meningitis; encephalitis; Neisseria meningitidis; serogroup Y; serogroup W; meningococcal disease; carriage; PCR;

    Sammanfattning : Infections in the central nervous system (CNS) include meningitis and encephalitis and are associated with high mortality and morbidity. A large number of different pathogens can cause these infections, including Neisseria meningitidis. LÄS MER

  3. 13. CD1d restricted NKT cells in regulation of pathogenic autoimmunity

    Författare :Anna Teige; Neurokirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Autoimmunity; NKT cells; CD1d antigen presentation; Multiple sclerosis; Rheumatoid arthritis;

    Sammanfattning : Human autoimmune diseases such as reumatoid arthritis (RA) and multiple sclerosis (MS) are believed to develop when self-tolerance mechanisms are failing, with a chronic destructive inflammation as result. To experimentally study autoimmunity, we have used murine models that mimic their human counterparts; experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) – a model for MS, and collagen induced arthritis (CIA) and antigen induced arthritis (AIA) – models for RA. 4. 14. Proteolytic imbalance in COPD : epidemiological and clinical aspects

    Författare :Robert Linder; Anders Blomberg; Anne Lindberg; Annelie F. Behndig; Arne Egesten; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Matrix metalloproteinases; MMP-9; MMP-12; lung function decline; epidemiology; COPD; OLIN; KOLIN; medicin; Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The complete pathologic mechanism behind the development of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) remains unclear, but several risk factors have been identified, of which smoking is the most common. Proteolytic imbalance contributes to lung tissue degradation and is related to both smoking and COPD symptoms. LÄS MER

  5. 15. On the epidemiology, clinical presentation and transmission of respiratory viral infections

    Författare :Nicklas Sundell; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; respiratory viruses; measles; influenza; epidemiology; meteorological factors; real-time PCR; viral transmission; lower respiratory tract infection;

    Sammanfattning : Respiratory viral infections encompass a large heterogenous group of pathogens that constitute a major burden of disease globally. The various routes of transmission including airborne spread make them difficult to control. LÄS MER
