  1. 1. Dendritic cells in cancer immunotherapy

    Författare :Karin Gustafsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :vaccines; dendritic cells; αDC1; PGE2DC; natural killer cells; T cells;

    Sammanfattning : Dendritic cells (DCs) play a central role in the initiation and regulation of innate and adaptive immune responses and have increasingly been applied as vaccines for cancer patients. Ex vivo generation and antigen loading of monocyte-derived DCs allows a controlled maturation, with the aim of imprinting different DC functions that are essential for their subsequent induction of a T cell-mediated anti-tumor response. 2. 2. CD1d restricted NKT cells in regulation of pathogenic autoimmunity

    Författare :Anna Teige; Neurokirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Autoimmunity; NKT cells; CD1d antigen presentation; Multiple sclerosis; Rheumatoid arthritis;

    Sammanfattning : Human autoimmune diseases such as reumatoid arthritis (RA) and multiple sclerosis (MS) are believed to develop when self-tolerance mechanisms are failing, with a chronic destructive inflammation as result. To experimentally study autoimmunity, we have used murine models that mimic their human counterparts; experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) – a model for MS, and collagen induced arthritis (CIA) and antigen induced arthritis (AIA) – models for RA. 3. 3. Immuno-modulatory functions of CD1d-restricted natural killer T cells

    Författare :Emma Berntman; Immunologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi; serology; Immunology; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; microarray; gene expression signature; infection; Salmonella; CD1d; NKT cells;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on a small population of non-conventional T lymphocytes, called natural killer T (NKT) cells. NKT cells have many unique features; such as recognition of glycolipids presented by CD1d, expression of NK receptors and rapid production of large amounts of cytokines, such as IL-4 and IFN-gamma,?upon activation. 4. 4. The leukocyte complexity and mutational landscape of periampullary adenocarcinoma. Morphology matters

    Författare :Sebastian Lundgren; Tumörmikromiljö; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; periampullary adenocarcinoma; pancreatic cancer; immune microenviroment; prognosis; macrophages; natural killer cells; natural killer T cells; T cells; B cells;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Periampullary adenocarcinomas are a heterogenous group of tumours with poor prognosis that hasnot improved considerably the last decades. Tumour morphology, i.e. intestinal type (I-type) or pancreatobiliarytype (PB-type), has been demonstrated to be a more relevant prognostic factor than anatomical origin. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Molecular and cellular mechanisms contributing to the pathogenesis of autoimmune diabetes

    Författare :Nádia Duarte; Dan Holmberg; David Serreze; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immunology; type 1 diabetes; NOD mouse; susceptibility loci; Idd6; Lrmp; gene; NKT; CD1d; TCR; mast cells; Immunologi; Immunology; Immunologi; medicinsk genetik; Medical Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disorder determined both by genetic and environmental factors. The Non-obese diabetic (NOD) mouse is one of the best animal models of this disease. It spontaneously develops diabetes through a process resembling the human pathogenesis. LÄS MER
