  1. 1. Pathogenic Neisseria : Single cell motility, multicellular dynamics and antimicrobial susceptibility

    Författare :Olaspers Sara Eriksson; Ann-Beth Jonsson; Matthew Francis; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Neisseria; Type IV pili; Twitching motility; PilT; Microcolony dynamics; PilU; NafA; Antimicrobial peptide; Cell-penetrating peptide; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Sammanfattning : Neisseria meningitidis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae can colonize humans without causing any symptoms. However, gonorrhea and invasive meningococcal disease are serious health concerns. An essential virulence factor for neisserial adhesion to host cells, twitching motility and microcolony formation/aggregation is the retractile type IV pili (Tfp). LÄS MER

  2. 2. Sulphonamide Resistance in Neisseria meningitidis and Commensal Neisseria Species

    Författare :Yvonne Qvarnström; Göte Swedberg; Dan Andersson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Microbiology; sulphonamide resistance; Neisseria; natural transformation; adaptive evolution; substrate channelling; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology; immunology; infectious diseases; Mikrobiologi; immunologi; infektionssjukdomar;

    Sammanfattning : Extensive use of the sulphonamide drugs against the bacterium Neisseria meningitidis has resulted in drug resistance development. Sulphonamide resistance in N. meningitidis is caused by alterations in the chromosomal folP gene, coding for DHPS (dihydropteroate synthase). LÄS MER

  3. 3. Antibiotic susceptibility and resistance in Neisseria meningitidis : phenotypic and genotypic characteristics

    Författare :Sara Thulin Hedberg; Magnus Unemo; Per Olcén; Hans Fredlund; Ian Feavers; Örebro universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Neisseria meningitidis, also known as the meningococcus, is a globally spread obligate human bacterium causing meningitis and/or septicaemia. It is responsible for epidemics in both developed and developing countries. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Pathogenic Neisseria infections of human neutrophils and epithelial cells : focusing on host responses and immune evasion

    Författare :Niklas Söderholm; Helena Aro; Thomas Rudel; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Neisseria meningitidis; Neisseria gonorrhoeae; Neutrophils; PMN; Epithelial cells; Polarized cells; Type IV pili; Adherence; Cell cycle; DNA damage; Lactobacillus; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Sammanfattning : N. meningitidis and N. gonorrhoeae are obligate human pathogens that colonize mucosal surfaces and are often carried asymptomatically. These bacteria have developed adhesive structures that promote adherence to host cells and efficient colonization of new hosts. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Influence of host and bacterial factors during Neisseria meningitidis colonization

    Författare :Sara Sigurlásdóttir; Ann-Beth Jonsson; Ute Römling; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Neisseria meningitidis; Colonization; Host-bacteria interactions; Lactate; Biofilms; Polynucleotide phosphorylase; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Sammanfattning : The human-restricted pathogen Neisseria meningitidis is a major cause of bacterial meningitis and sepsis worldwide. Colonization of the mucosal layer in the upper respiratory tract is essential to establish an asymptomatic carrier state and invasive disease. N. LÄS MER
