6. Pharmacology and resistance mechanisms of nucleoside analogues and topoisomerase II interactive agents : studies on human leukemia cells with a focus on cross-resistance
Sammanfattning : The purpose of this thesis was to elucidate mechanisms of action and resistance of clinically relevant nucleoside analogues and topoisomerase interactive agents in human leukemia cell lines and leukernia cells isolated from peripheral blood of leukemia patients. Interactions and cross-resistance patterns of these different cytotoxic drug families were also studied since these drugs are usually administrated in combination in the clinic. LÄS MER
7. Resistance mechanisms for nucleoside analogues : with focus on metabolism and apoptosis
Sammanfattning : The aim of the thesis was to elucidate the mechanisms underlying resistance to nucleoside analogues used in the treatment of leukemias, with focus on cellular metabolism and induction of apoptosis. Cladribine (CdA), Clofarabine (CAFdA), Fludarabine (Fara-A) and Nelarabine (Ara-G) are nucleoside analogues with activity against various types of leukemias. LÄS MER
8. lnduction Therapies in Multiple Sclerosis - Clinical and immunological follow-up
Sammanfattning : Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic disease that damages the central nervous system. Its pathophysiology is complex, and consists of inflammation and degeneration from the disease onset. The treatment of MS has continuously been developed with improved efficacy. LÄS MER
9. Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation for Treatment of Multiple Sclerosis in Sweden
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigated the efficacy and safety of autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (AHSCT) as a treatment of multiple sclerosis. This thesis demonstrates that when compared to one of the most powerful disease-modifying drugs (DMDs), specifically alemtuzumab (ALZ), AHSCT is able to hold its ground. LÄS MER
10. Studies of overcoming acquired resistance : molecular mechanisms and development of novel drugs
Sammanfattning : Chemotherapeutic agents have become widely applied for treatment of various types of malignancies. Drug resistance unfortunately remains as a major obstacle for the effectiveness of chemotherapy. Cancer drug resistance includes two broad categories: intrinsic and acquired. LÄS MER
