21. Homocysteine and its determinants in relation to cardiovascular risk factors and myocardial infarction
Sammanfattning : Background: Globally, cardiovascular diseases (CVD), including myocardial infarction (MI) and stroke, are the leading cause of illness and death and constitute a significant part of the disease burden in Sweden and Western Europe. Age, hypertension, smoking, obesity, dyslipoproteinemia, diabetes, and impaired renal function are considered established risk factors for CVD. LÄS MER
22. VENOUS THROMBOEMBOLISM IN SOUTHERN SWEDEN EPIDEMIOLOGY AND RISK FACTORS
Sammanfattning : Despite the fact that venous thromboembolism (VTE) is an important cause of morbidity and mortality there is still insufficient information on VTE risk factors and patient characteristics in the general population. Previously published incidences of VTE (deep venous thrombosis [DVT] and pulmonary embolism [PE]) vary from 71 to 192 per 100,000 individuals per year. LÄS MER
23. Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease in rheumatoid arthritis : aspects of pathogenesis and risk
Sammanfattning : Patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) have an increased prevalence and severity of atherosclerosis, and a corresponding increased risk of cardiovascular disease. The mechanisms causing this are not well elucidated, but both traditional cardiovascular risk factors and RA-associated factors have been associated with atherosclerosis and increased risk of cardiovascular events in patients with RA. 24. Prevalence and Prognostic Impact of Periodontal Disease and Conventional Risk Factors in Patients with Stable Coronary Heart Disease
Sammanfattning : The purpose of this thesis was to assess the prevalence and management of established cardiovascular (CV) risk factors and the prevalence and influence of self-reported markers (number of teeth and frequency of gum bleeding) of periodontal disease (PD), a less explored CV risk factor, in patients with stable chronic coronary heart disease (CHD).We studied patients from the global STabilization of Atherosclerotic plaque By Initiation of darapLadIb TherapY (STABILITY) trial (n=15,828), in which patients with stable chronic CHD were randomized to either darapladib or placebo.
