1. APOLIPOPROTEIN M
Sammanfattning : Apolipoprotein M (apoM) is composed of 188 amino acids and has an apparent molecular weight of 25 kDa. ApoM belongs to the lipocalin protein superfamily, and is found in all major lipoprotein classes, although the majority of apoM is found in high density lipoprotein, HDL. In apoM, the signal peptide is retained in the mature protein. LÄS MER
2. Apolipoprotein M – Studies of Structure and Function
Sammanfattning : Apolipoprotein M (apoM), a 25 kDa plasma protein, is found in all major lipoprotein classes, although the majority is found in high density lipoproteins (HDL). ApoM has been suggested to be involved in the formation of and adding to the antiatherogenic functions of HDL, but its function is still not completely known. LÄS MER
3. Biophysical Studies of Apolipoprotein A-IM and a Partitioning study
Sammanfattning : The major part of this thesis deals with the similarities and differences in some biophysical properties of apolipoprotein A-I (apo A-I) and the molecular variant apolipoprotein A-IMilano (apo A-IM), and the influence on lipid binding. A model compound partitioning study has also been performed. LÄS MER
4. Peripheral apolipoprotein E and its emerging role in neurodegenerative disease
Sammanfattning : The human apolipoprotein E gene (APOE) is polymorphic and coding for three common alleles; ε2, ε3, and ε4. Carriers of the ε4 allele are at a higher risk of developing sporadic late-onset Alzheimer’s Disease (AD). This association appears to be influenced by inherited traits, race, and sex. LÄS MER
5. Studies on the atherogenicity of apoB-containing lipoproteins in type 2 diabetes
Sammanfattning : Type 2 diabetes (T2D) and the metabolic syndrome (MetS), two conditions that are rapidly increasing in prevalence, as well as the dyslipoproteinemia and subclinical inflammation characteristic for these conditions, are associated with an increased risk for developing and dying of cardiovascular disease (CVD). The aim of this thesis was to investigate possible atherogenic properties of very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) in T2D and MetS. LÄS MER
