  1. 1. Automation, hyphenation and multidimensional chromatography for PAH analysis : Analytical techniques to simplify sample complexity

    Författare :Hwanmi Lim; Roger Westerholm; Christoffer Bergvall; Stephen Wise; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon; PAH; benzo[a]pyrene; B[a]P; carcinogenicity; cancer risk assessment; complex matrix; automation; hyphenation; multidimensional chromatography; two-dimensional; method translation; online fractionation; benz[j]aceanthrylene; B[j]A; relative potency factor; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : One group of organic environmental pollutants which are potentially hazardous to human health is polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). These compounds consist of two or more benzene rings in their structure among which benzo[a]pyrene (B[a]P) is classified as a human carcinogen. LÄS MER

  2. 2. A step forward in using QSARs for regulatory hazard and exposure assessment of chemicals

    Författare :Aleksandra Rybacka; Patrik Andersson; Christina Rudén; Anna Linusson; Uko Maran; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; QSAR; in silico; non-testing tools; risk assessment; exposure assessment; hazard assessment; carcinogenicity; mutagenicity; reproductive toxicity; endocrine disruption; estrogen; androgen; transthyretin; sorption; Environmental Science; miljövetenskap; Computer Science; datalogi; Toxicology; toxikologi; Statistics; statistik;

    Sammanfattning : According to the REACH regulation chemicals produced or imported to the European Union need to be assessed to manage the risk of potential hazard to human health and the environment. An increasing number of chemicals in commerce prompts the need for utilizing faster and cheaper alternative methods for this assessment, such as quantitative structure-activity or property relationships (QSARs or QSPRs). 3. 3. DNA lesions and carcinogenicity from the urban air pollutants 2- and 3-nitrobenzanthrone

    Författare :Eszter Nagy; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :3-nitrobenzanthrone; 2-nitrobenzanthrone; diesel exhaust; carcinogenicity; acute toxicity; DNA adducts; oxidative stress; intratracheal; ingestion;

    Sammanfattning : In the early 1990's, Japanese doctors in urban areas discovered an increasing incidence of lung cancer among women, which was not attributed to a change in diet or smoking. This led to a growing investigation of urban air, and subsequently the discovery of 3-nitrobenzanthrone (3-NBA), a pollutant originating from diesel emissions. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Health of municipal sewage workers : Studies of cancer incidence, biomarkers of carcinogenicity and genotoxicity, and self reported symptoms

    Författare :Lennart Friis; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; Abdominal symptoms; alkaline single cell gel assay; asthma; cancer; comet assay; dyspepsia; genotoxic exposure; Helicobacter pylori; IBS; occupational epidemiology; respiratory symptoms; sewage workers; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; arbets- och miljömedicin; Occupational and Environmental Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : The occupational exposures of sewage workers are complex and variable, and include a great variety of biological and chemical agents. Previous research has focused mostly on infections and various symptoms among sewage workers, e.g. abdominal and respiratory symptoms. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Cellular effects of nickel and nickel oxide nanoparticles : focus on mechanisms related to carcinogenicity

    Författare :Emma Åkerlund; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : There has been a rapid increase in the production and useage of nanomaterials during the last decade and therefore it is of great importance to properly investigate safety of these materials. This thesis specifically focuses on nickel (Ni) and nickel oxide (NiO) nanoparticles (NPs). LÄS MER
