  1. 11. Tissue engineering in blood vessels

    Författare :Gisela Helenius; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :tissue engineering; vascular graft; endothelial cells; smooth muscle cells; thrombogenicity; mechanical properties; scaffold; bacterial cellulose;

    Sammanfattning : Severely occluded coronary- and peripheral arteries, caused by atherosclerotic plaques, are treated with bypass surgery. Autologous veins are the most commonly used replacement graft. Among the patients that need a vascular bypass, 5-10% lack appropriate replacement veins due to previous surgery of bad quality of the vessels. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Regulation of Hematopoietic Stem Cells

    Författare :Emma Rörby; Avdelningen för molekylärmedicin och genterapi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hematopoiesis; hematopoietic stem cells; hematopoietic stem cell expansion; cord blood; transforming growth factor beta; Smad signaling; pigment epithelium derived factor; CD9;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is about the regulation of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) that represent rare cells residing in the bone marrow (BM) of adults. They are multipotent cells that have the capacity to differentiate to all mature cells of the blood system and have the capacity to self-renew, i.e. generate new HSCs. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Blood and Bone - Epidemiological studies on the association between blood and bone

    Författare :Hallgerdur Lind Kristjansdottir; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Blood; Bone; Fractures; Osteoporosis;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction: Preclinical and clinical studies have suggested that blood- and bone cells are interconnected. Aims: To study the association between hematological variables, specifically serotonin, erythropoietin (EPO), hemoglobin (Hb), neutrophil-, lymphocyte-, and platelet count, and bone mineral density (BMD), and/or risk for fractures (paper I-III). 4. 14. Mitochondrial function in sepsis - Temporal evolvement of respiratory capacity in human blood cells

    Författare :Fredrik Sjövall; Lund Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; human; sepsis; severe sepsis; septic shock; platelets; mitochondria; OXPHOS; high-resolution respirometry; mitochondrial disorders; multiple organ failure; biogenesis; leukocytes; cytokines; respirometry; oxygen consumption; blood cells; temporal;

    Sammanfattning : Sepsis is a devastating disease that is caused by the host’s response to an overwhelming infectious process. As sepsis progresses, organs distant from the site of infection become affected and sepsis-induced multiple organ failure ensues. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Bystander Cells and Prognosis in Hodgkin Lymphoma

    Författare :Daniel Molin; Stephen J. Proctor; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oncology; Hodgkin Lymphoma; Bystander cells; Eosinophilic granulocytes; Eosinophil cationic protein ECP ; Mast cells; Prognosis; Early and Intermediate stage; Onkologi; Hodgkin lymfom; eosinofila granulocyter; ECP; mast celler; prognos; tidiga och intermediära stadier; Oncology; Onkologi; Oncology; onkologi;

    Sammanfattning : Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) is characterised histologically by a minority of malignant Hodgkin and Reed-Sternberg (HRS) cells surrounded by benign cells, and clinically by a relatively good prognosis. The treatment, however, leads to a risk of serious side effects. LÄS MER
