1. Tailoring Cellulose Nanofibrils for Advanced Materials
Sammanfattning : Cellulose nanofibrils (CNFs) are nanoscale fibers of high aspect ratio that can be isolated from a wide variety of cellulosic sources, including wood and bacterial cellulose. With high strength despite of their low density, CNFs are a promising renewable building block for the preparation of nanostructured materials and composites. LÄS MER
2. Biomedical Applications of Bacterial Cellulose Fermentation, Morphology and Surface Properties
Sammanfattning : Because average life expectancy has increased and peoples lifestyles have changed, degenerative diseases have become a critical issue. The demand for biomedical materials to replace or improve major body systems (skeletal, circulatory and nervous, etc.) will increase as people strive to maintain good quality of life. LÄS MER
3. The kinetics of cellulose enzymatic hydrolysis : Implications of the synergism between enzymes
Sammanfattning : The hydrolysis kinetics of bacterial cellulose and its derivatives by Trichoderma reesei cellulases was studied. The cellulose surface erosion model was introduced to explain the gradual and strong retardation of the rate of enzymatic hydrolysis of cellulose. LÄS MER
4. Structural changes during cellulose composite processing
Sammanfattning : Two approaches for creating a new all-cellulose composite material have been studied: the biosynthesis of compartmentalised bacterial cellulose fibril aggregates and the compression moulding of commercial chemical wood pulps processed with only water. The objective was to study the structural changes during processing and the complexity of relating the mechanical properties of the final biocomposites to the nanoscale structure was highlighted. 5. Engineering the shape of bacterial cellulose and its use as blood vessel replacement
Sammanfattning : Tissue loss and organ failure are major health problems that impose great costs on society. Cardiovascular diseases are responsible for 36% of mortalities and the disease burden among adults over the age of 60. The single largest cardiovascular disease is atherosclerosis in the coronary artery. LÄS MER
