  1. 1. Phenomenology of Inert Scalar and Supersymmetric Dark Matter

    Författare :Erik Lundström; Joakim Edsjö; Lars Bergström; Michel Tytgat; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Dark matter; inert scalars; supersymmetry; indirect detection; accelerator searches; Physics; Fysik; Astroparticle physics; Astropartikelfysik; Elementary particle physics; Elementarpartikelfysik; teoretisk fysik; Theoretical Physics;

    Sammanfattning : While the dark matter has so far only revealed itself through the gravitational influence it exerts on its surroundings, there are good reasons to believe it is made up by WIMPs – a hypothetical class of heavy elementary particles not encompassed by the Standard Model of particle physics. The Inert Doublet Model constitutes a simple extension of the Standard Model Higgs sector. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Calibration of b-tagging efficiency and search for Dark Matter production in association with heavy flavour quarks with the ATLAS experiment

    Författare :Anna Shcherbakova; Sara Strandberg; Chad Finley; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ATLAS; b-tagging; calibration; Dark Matter; simplified model; Physics; fysik; High Energy Physics;

    Sammanfattning : The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is the most powerful and complex particle accelerator ever built. The ATLAS detector is a general-purpose particle detector at the LHC, designed to cover a wide range of physics measurements. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Machine Learning in High-Energy Physics: Displaced Event Detection and Developments in ROOT/TMVA

    Författare :Kim Albertsson; Fredrik Sandin; Andreas Hocker; Tobias Golling; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cyber-Physical Systems; Cyberfysiska system;

    Sammanfattning : Many proposed extensions to the Standard Model of particle physics predict long-lived particles, which can decay at a significant distance from the primary interaction point. Such events produce displaced vertices with distinct detector signatures when compared to standard model processes. LÄS MER

  4. 4. The Beauty in Broken Symmetries : b-jet identification and searches for Supersymmetry, Dark Matter and multi-Higgs boson production with the ATLAS experiment

    Författare :Laura Pereira Sánchez; Sara Strandberg; Olof Lundberg; Mauro Donegà; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ATLAS; b-tagging; HH; mistag rate; BSM; Physics; fysik;

    Sammanfattning : The Large Hadron Collider is the largest and most powerful accelerator in the world. Proton bunches are accelerated to 6.5 TeV inside the LHC ring in opposite directions and are then collided at four different points around the ring with an energy of 13 TeV. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Searches for Massive Highly Ionising Particles at the ATLAS Experiment and in Polar Volcanic Rocks, and Performance Studies of the First Level ATLAS Trigger System

    Författare :Katarina Bendtz; David Milstead; Kenneth Österberg; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Magnetiska monopoler; Trigger; fysik; Physics;

    Sammanfattning : The Standard Model (SM) of particle physics describes the elementary particles and their interactions. Despite passing a number of high precision falsification tests, it is argued that the SM suffers from a number of shortcomings. Many Beyond the Standard Model (BSM) theories have therefore been postulated. LÄS MER
