  1. 16. Membrane Interactions of Arginine-Rich Peptides for the Intracellular Delivery of Gene-Targeted Drugs

    Författare :Per Thoren; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cellular uptake; translocation; protein transduction; circular dichroism; drug delivery; liposomes; resonance energy transfer; PNA; antigene; antisense;

    Sammanfattning : A major obstacle for the therapeutic use of e.g. oligonucleotides is their inherently poor cellular uptake. A recently discovered class of peptides, denoted cell-penetrating peptides, has been shown to traverse cell membranes, even when conjugated to oligonucleotides or even full-length proteins. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Posttranscriptional regulation of gene expression in retroviruses and human papillomaviruses

    Författare :Wei Tan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :CTE; EIAV; HIV- 1; HPV; Rev; RRE; splice site; SRV- 1; 3 UTR Stockholm 1996 Doctoral Thesis;

    Sammanfattning : Human immunodeficiency virus type I (HIV-1) is the prototype of complex retroviruses, whereas human papillomaviruses (HPVs) are nonenveloped, cricular double-stranded DNA viruses. The HIV-1 Rev protein is a posttranscriptional regulator, which acts on its target RNA sequence termed the Rev-responsive element (RRE) to facilitate nuclear export of unspliced and partially spliced HIV-1 mRNAs, and to improve their stability and translatability. 3. 18. On the Role of Polyamines and Microvesicles in Tumour Development. Regulation by Hypoxia and Implications for Therapeutic Intervention of Cancer

    Författare :Johanna Welch; Bröstcancer-genetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; heparan sulphate proteoglycans; cancer; hypoxia; polyamines; microvesicles; anti-angiogenic therapy; angiogenesis;

    Sammanfattning : Novel strategies for specific tumour cell targeting are necessary in order to improve survival rates and to reduce side effects of current therapies in cancer patients. Hypoxia is a hallmark of solid tumours and one of the major driving forces for tumour progression. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Acute coronary syndrome : bleeding, platelets and gender

    Författare :Anna Holm; Eva Swahn; Joakim Alfredsson; Sofia Sederholm Lawesson; Christina Christersson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : BACKGROUNDBleeding complications increase mortality in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Potential gender difference in bleeding regarding prevalence, location, severity and prognostic impact is still controversial and not well investigated. In regard to this aspect the relevance of triple antithrombotic therapy (TAT) is questioned. LÄS MER

  5. 20. AIDS and endemic Kaposi's sarcoma development : comparison by histopathology, virology (HHV8/KSHV) and cytogenetics

    Författare :Pawan Pyakurel; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Kaposi’s sarcoma (KS) is a highly and abnormally vascularized tumor-like lesion with spindle cells (SC) affecting the skin, lymphnodes and viscera which is found in four different clinico-epidemiological forms as Classic KS (CKS), Iatrogenic KS (IKS), Endemic KS (EKS) and AIDS-associated KS (AKS). All KS forms develop from early stages of patch/plaque to late, nodular tumors and are associated with Kaposi's sarcomaassociated herpesvirus or human herpesvirus-8 (KSHV/ HHV-8). LÄS MER
