  1. 6. A song of ice and mud : Interactions of microbes with roots, fauna and carbon in warming permafrost-affected soils

    Författare :Sylvain Monteux; Ellen Dorrepaal; Frida Keuper; James T. Weedon; Joshua Schimel; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; microbial communities; permafrost; functional limitations; rhizosphere; SOM decomposition; soil fauna; climate change; carbon dioxide;

    Sammanfattning : Permafrost-affected soils store a large quantity of soil organic matter (SOM) – ca. half of worldwide soil carbon – and currently undergo rapid and severe warming due to climate change. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Perturbance and Stimulation : using Nitrogen Addition and High-Throughput Sequencing to Study Fungal Communities in Boreal Forests

    Författare :Andreas N. Schneider; Nathaniel Street; Vaughan Hurry; Torgny Näsholm; Colin Averill; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Boreal forest; Scots pine; Norway spruce; ectomycorrhiza; saprotroph; fertilization; nitrogen; mycobiome; rhizosphere; decomposition; carbon; seedling establishment; forest management; clearcutting;

    Sammanfattning : Fungal communities are major players in globally important nutrient cycling processes, and form symbioses with most terrestrial plants. In the nitrogen (N) limited Swedish boreal forest, ectomycorrhizal (EcM) fungi colonize most roots of the economically important and stand dominating conifer species, Norway spruce (Picea abies) and Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris), with significant implications for tree nutrition and decomposition processes. 3. 8. Indirect biotic interactions in the rhizosphere

    Författare :Natalia Ladygina; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The rhizosphere (the soil environment around plant roots) is characterized by complex direct and indirect interactions among its organisms. Studies of interactions among organisms in the rhizosphere are difficult to carry out due to a high diversity of inconspicuous organisms on a micro scale and the highly heterogeneous nature of the soil environment. 4. 9. Ecology and genomics of microorganisms reducing the greenhouse gas N₂O : examples from the rhizosphere

    Författare :Daniel Graf; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Nitrous oxide (N₂O) is a potent greenhouse gas and the major ozone depleting substance in the stratosphere. One major source of N₂O is incomplete denitrification, whereas the only known tropospheric sink of N₂O is the microbial enzyme nitrous oxide reductase. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Mechanisms and regulations of priming effects in soil

    Författare :Jian Li; MEMEG; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Soil organic matter (SOM) plays a significant role in the global carbon (C) and nutrients cycles, not only since SOM is a major storage reservoir of C and plant nutrients, but also since microbial decomposition of SOM releases large quantities of CO2 to the atmosphere. The accelerated or reduced turnover rate of SOM after the input of labile C compounds is a phenomenon known as the priming effect (PE). LÄS MER
