11. Perceptual Quality Metric Design for Wireless Image and Video Communication
Sammanfattning : The evolution of advanced radio transmission technologies for third generation mobile radio systems has paved the way for the delivery of mobile multimedia services. In particular, wireless image and video applications are among the most popular services offered on modern mobile devices to support communication beyond the traditional voice services. LÄS MER
12. Voice Imitation : A Phonetic Study of Perceptual Illusions and Acoustic Success
Sammanfattning : This thesis is about voice imitations, more specifically impersonation. Questions are raised about the uniqueness of a person’s voice and speech behaviour and if it is possible to get close to another speaker’s voice and speech. Four main research questions are investigated in different studies. LÄS MER
13. On Vowels : Spectral Features, Related Aspects of Production and Sociophonetic Dimensions
Sammanfattning : The first and major part of this thesis deals with spectral features of vowels and with the distinction of phonetic information from personal and transmittal information also conveyed to listeners by speech sounds. The results of perceptual experiments with synthetic vowels whose fundamental and first formant were varied in frequency suggested that the smaller tonotopical distances between formants (< 6 Bark) are invariant in phonetically idenctical vowels produced by male and female speakers of several languages. 14. A study on selecting and optimizing perceptually relevant features for automatic speech recognition
Sammanfattning : The performance of an automatic speech recognition (ASR) system strongly depends on the representation used for the front-end. If the extracted features do not include all relevant information, the performance of the classification stage is inherently suboptimal. LÄS MER
15. Light Rhythms : Exploring the Perceptual and Behavioural Effects of Daylight and Artificial Light Conditions in a Scandinavian Context
Sammanfattning : This compilation thesis collects multidisciplinary work on the study of the impact of light rhythms on perception and behaviour. The thesis was structured to answer and discuss the questions: “How does a person feel and behave inan illuminated space?” and “Do variable light conditions influence perception, appraisal and motion?”.
