1. Adsorption of Metallic Ions onto Chitosan : Equilibrium and Kinetic Studies
Sammanfattning : Equilibrium isotherms and the adsorption kinetics of heavy metals onto chitosan were studied experimentally. Chitosan, a biopolymer produced from crustacean shells, has applications in various areas, particularly in drinking water and wastewater treatment due to its ability to remove metallic ions from solutions. 2. Tracing Copper from society to the aquatic environment : Model development and case studies in Stockholm
Sammanfattning : Copper remains at elevated levels in the aquatic environment of Stockholm due to diffuse urban sources. Management of these diffuse sources requires their quantification but they cannot be measured directly by field observations. LÄS MER
3. Removal of natural organic matter by enhanced coagulation in Nicaragua
Sammanfattning : The existence of trihalomethanes (THMs) in a drinking water plant of Nicaragua has been investigated in order to see whether the concentration exceeded the maximum contaminant level recommended by the environmental protection agency of the United States (USEPA) and the Nicaragua guidelines. The influence of pH, temperature, chlorine dose and contact time on the formation of THMs were studied. LÄS MER
4. Effects of HCO3- and ionic strength on the oxidation and dissolution of UO2
Sammanfattning : The kinetics for radiation induced dissolution of spent nuclear fuel is a key issue in the safety assessment of a future deep repository. Spent nuclear fuel mainly consists of UO2 and therefore the release of radionuclides (fission products and actinides) is assumed to be governed by the oxidation and subsequent dissolution of the UO2 matrix. 5. Removal of Natural Organic Matter and Control of Trihalomethanes Formation in Water Treatment
Sammanfattning : Volcanic ash, pumice and Moringa oleifera (M. oleifera) were investigated as indigenous materials for removal of natural organic matter (NOM) at Kampala and Masaka water treatment plants in Uganda. LÄS MER
