  1. 6. Longitudinal Models for Quantifying Disease and Therapeutic Response in Multiple Sclerosis

    Författare :Ana M. Novakovic; Mats O. Karlsson; Etienne Pigeolet; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; nonlinear mixed-effects models; pharmacometrics; NONMEM; multiple sclerosis; cladribine; EDSS; item response theory; relapse rate; absolute lymphocyte count; total volume T2 lesions; burden of disease; power; sample size; Pharmaceutical Science; Farmaceutisk vetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Treatment of patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) and development of new therapies have been challenging due to the disease complexity and slow progression, and the limited sensitivity of available clinical outcomes. Modeling and simulation has become an increasingly important component in drug development and in post-marketing optimization of use of medication. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Science versus School-science : Multiple models in genetics - The depiction of gene function in upper secondary textbooks and its influence on students' understanding

    Författare :Niklas Gericke; Mariana Hagberg; Doris Jorde; Michael Reiss; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; conceptual change; genetics; history of science; models; nature of science; students’ understanding; textbooks; upper secondary school; Subject didactics; Ämnesdidaktik; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis I describe a study of how the science of genetics is transformed into school science in upper secondary level textbooks and the impact that this transformation has on students’ understanding. The didactic challenge that we face is to decide which science from the academic disciplines we should bring into schools. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Factors Shaping Process and Representation in Multiple-Cue Judgment

    Författare :Anna-Carin Olsson; Peter Juslin; Nigel Harvey; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Psychology; Multiple-Cue Judgment; categorization; cognitive processes; knowl-edge representations; exemplar-based models; cue abstraction models; Psykologi; Psychology; Psykologi; Psychology; psykologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates the cognitive processes and representations underlying human judgment in a multiple-cue judgment task. Several recent models as-sume that people have several qualitatively distinct and competing levels of knowledge representations (Ashby, Alfonso-Reese, Turken, & Waldron, 1998; Erickson & Kruschke, 1998; Nosofsky, Palmeri, & McKinley, 1994; Sloman, 1996). 4. 9. Genetic analysis of autoimmune diseases using animal models : Mapping susceptibility genes for multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis

    Författare :Hai-Tao Yang; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; Collagen induced arthritis CIA ; Experimental allergic encephalomyelities EAE ; Multiple sclerosis MS ; Quantitative trait loci QTL ; Rheumatoid arthritis RA ; Linkage analysis; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Medical Genetics; medicinsk genetik;

    Sammanfattning : Autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis are common human diseasesaffecting 1% and 0.1% of the population respectively. These diseases are characterized by abnormal self-tolerance in the immune system and autoimmune reactions. LÄS MER

  5. 10. The kaleidoscope of communication : Different perspectives on communication involving children with severe multiple disabilities

    Författare :Cecilia Olsson; Siv Fischbein; Mats Granlund; Juliet Goldbart; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; dyadic interaction; pre-symbolic communication; multiple disabilities; system theory; communication process; communication models; Education; Pedagogik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of six publications presenting a theoretical framework, a methodological proposal and three empirical studies. The aim of the work is; to gain knowledge on how children with severe multiple disabilities communicate with their caregivers, to analyse how different research strategies can add knowledge from different perspectives on communication, and to develop models for analysing and describing the dyadic interaction.
