  1. 1. Complement receptor-mediated signal transduction in human neutrophils : A role for protein kinase C in the phagocytic process

    Författare :Maria Fällman; Claes B. Wollheim; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : The neutrophil granulocyte comprises the first line of human defense against invading microorganisms. A versatile motile machinery enables the cell to migrate to the inflammatory site and there engulf and destroy the pathogens by phagocytosis. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Persistent infection by Yersinia pseudotuberculosis

    Författare :Kemal Avican; Maria Fällman; Wyndham W. Lathem; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Persistent infection; RNA-seq; PMNs; Yersinia; Transcriptome; wrba; fnr; rovA; arcA; rfaH; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology; Infectious Diseases; infektionssjukdomar; immunologi; Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : Enteropathogenic Yersinia species can infect many mammalian organs such as the small intestine, cecum, Peyer’s patches, liver, spleen, and lung and cause diseases that resemble a typhoid-like syndrome, as seen for other enteropathogens. We found that sublethal infection doses of Y. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Effects of bacterial genotoxins on immune modulation, chronic inflammation and cancer development

    Författare :Anna Bergonzini; Teresa Frisan; Maria Fällman; Steffen Backert; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; immunologi; Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : The intestinal microbiome of Inflammatory Bowel Disease and colorectal cancer patients is enriched in genotoxin-producing bacteria, which cause DNA damage in the host cells.Genotoxins have recently been identified as a novel family of effectors produced by pathogenic and commensal bacteria. 4. 4. Timing and targeting of Type III secretion translocation of virulence effectors in Yersinia

    Författare :Sofie Ekestubbe; Åke Forsberg; Roland Rosqvist; Maria Fällman; Kurt Schesser; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Type III secretion system; virulence; translocation; Yersinia pseudotuberculosis; LcrV; YopN; effector targeting; phagocytosis inhibition; YopH; in vivo infection;

    Sammanfattning : The Type III secretion system (T3SS) is an important virulence mechanism that allows pathogenic bacteria to translocate virulence effectors directly into the cytoplasm of eukaryotic host cells to manipulate the host cells in favor of the pathogen. Enteropathogenic Yersinia pseudotuberculosis use a T3SS to translocate effectors, Yops, that prevent phagocytosis by immune cells, and is largely dependent on it to establish and sustain an infection in the lymphoid tissues of a mammalian host. 5. 5. Coordinating type III secretion system biogenesis in Yersinia pseudotuberculosis

    Författare :Jyoti Mohan Gurung; Matthew S Francis; Maria Fällman; Dirk Linke; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Yersinia pseudotuberculosis; type III secretion system; YscX; YscY; YopN; TyeA; secretion signal; N-terminal region; site-directed mutagenesis; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology; mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : Various Gram-negative bacteria utilize type III secretion system (T3SS) to deliver effectors into eukaryotic host cells and establish mutualistic or pathogenic interactions. An example is the Ysc-Yop T3SS of pathogenic Yersinia species. LÄS MER
