  1. 1. Neonatal Developmental Neurotoxicity of Brominated Flame Retardants, the Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDEs)

    Författare :Henrik Viberg; Per Eriksson; Susan Schantz; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; brominated flame retardants; polybrominated diphenyl ethers; PBDE; neonatal; development; neurotoxicity; behaviour; cholinergic system; Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis examines developmental neurotoxic effects of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), PBDE 99, PBDE 153, and the fully brominated PBDE 209, after exposure during the newborn period in rodents. Our environment contains vast numbers of contaminants, including the flame retardants, PBDEs. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Low-Dose Ionizing Radiation Induces Neurotoxicity in the Neonate : Acute or fractionated doses and interaction with xenobiotics in mice

    Författare :Sonja Buratovic; Per Eriksson; Henrik Viberg; Bo Stenerlöw; Anders Fredriksson; Jean-René Jourdain; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ionizing radiation; Neonatal; Neurotoxicity; Behaviour; Nicotine; Ketamine; Mouse; Cognition; Acute irradiation; Fractionated irradiation;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis examines the developmental neurotoxic effects of exposure to low-dose ionizing radiation (IR), alone or together with xenobiotics, during a critical period of neonatal brain development in mice.During mammalian brain development there is a period called the brain growth spurt (BGS), which involves extensive growth and maturation of the brain. 3. 3. Neonatal Exposure to Highly Brominated Diphenyl Ethers and Perfluorinated Compounds : Developmental Dependent Toxicity and Interaction

    Författare :Niclas Johansson; Per Eriksson; Anders Fredriksson; Henrik Viberg; Hellmuth Lilienthal; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; Biologi; Ecotoxicology; ekotoxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis investigated the developmental neurotoxic effects of neonatal exposure to highly brominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and perfluorinated compounds (PFCs), alone or in combinations, during a critical period of the brains’ rapid growth and development, in mice. The compounds investigated were the decaBDE (PBDE 209), nonaBDE (PBDE 206), octaBDE (PBDE 203), heptaBDE (PBDE 183), and three PFCs, PFOS, PFOA, and PFDA. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Developmental Neurotoxicity of Environmental Pollutants : Effects on neuronal protein markers after neonatal exposure

    Författare :Iwa Lee; Henrik Viberg; Elena Jazin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental neurotoxicity; Neonatal exposure; Protein markers; Environmental pollutants; Biologi med inriktning mot ekotoxikologi; Biology with specialization in Environmental Toxicology;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focused on investigations of the developmental neurotoxic effects of bisphenol A (BPA) or perfluorohexane sulfonate (PFHxS), after a single neonatal exposure, during a critical period of the brain development in mice.BPA is a well-known industrial chemical used in the production of polymer products and PFHxS is used as an industrial additive as a surfactant. 5. 5. Developmental neurotoxicity of persistent and non-persistent pollutants : Behavioral and neurochemical assessments of a perfluorinated compound, pesticides and interaction effects

    Författare :Iwa Lee; Henrik Viberg; Per Eriksson; William Mundy; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Brain; Neonatal; Mixtures; Cholinergic system; Organochlorines; Pyrethroids; Organophosphates; Carbamates; Insecticides; PFCs; PFAAs; PFHxS; Endosulfan; Cypermethrin; Chlorpyrifos; Carbaryl; Biology with specialization in Environmental Toxicology; Biologi med inriktning mot miljötoxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : The focus of this thesis was to investigate developmental neurotoxic effects of different persistent and non-persistent environmental pollutants, alone or in binary mixtures, when exposure occurs during a critical period of brain development, in mice. The compounds investigated included a perfluorinated compound, perfluorohexane sulphonate (PFHxS), and four different pesticides, endosulfan, cypermethrin, chlorpyrifos and carbaryl. LÄS MER
