1. Effects of Orexins, Guanylins and Feeding on Duodenal Bicarbonate Secretion and Enterocyte Intracellular Signaling
Sammanfattning : The duodenal epithelium secretes bicarbonate ions and this is regarded as the primary defence mechanism against the acid discharged from the stomach. For an efficient protection, the duodenum must also function as a sensory organ identifying luminal factors. LÄS MER
2. Towards Heart Rate Variability Tools in P-Health : Pervasive, Preventive, Predictive and Personalized
Sammanfattning : Heart rate variability (HRV) has received much attention lately. It has been shown that HRV can be used to monitor the autonomic nervous system and to detect autonomic dysfunction, especially vagal dysfunction. Reduced HRV is associated with several diseases and has also been suggested as a predictor of poor outcomes and sudden cardiac death. LÄS MER
3. Neonatal Developmental Neurotoxicity of Brominated Flame Retardants, the Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDEs)
Sammanfattning : This thesis examines developmental neurotoxic effects of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), PBDE 99, PBDE 153, and the fully brominated PBDE 209, after exposure during the newborn period in rodents. Our environment contains vast numbers of contaminants, including the flame retardants, PBDEs. LÄS MER
4. Neurotoxic Effects of Nicotine During Neonatal Brain Development : Critical Period and Adult Susceptibility
Sammanfattning : This thesis examined neurotoxic effects of nicotine exposure during a defined critical period of neonatal brain development in mice.In our environment there are numerous hazardous contaminants that an individual can be exposed to during its entire lifetime. LÄS MER
5. Developmental neurotoxicity of persistent and non-persistent pollutants : Behavioral and neurochemical assessments of a perfluorinated compound, pesticides and interaction effects
Sammanfattning : The focus of this thesis was to investigate developmental neurotoxic effects of different persistent and non-persistent environmental pollutants, alone or in binary mixtures, when exposure occurs during a critical period of brain development, in mice. The compounds investigated included a perfluorinated compound, perfluorohexane sulphonate (PFHxS), and four different pesticides, endosulfan, cypermethrin, chlorpyrifos and carbaryl. LÄS MER
