6. Characterisation of Some Immune Genes in the Black Tiger Shrimp, Penaeus monodon
Sammanfattning : The molecular mechanisms of the immune system in shrimp, Penaeus monodon, are completely unknown, despite its economic importance as an aquaculture species, especially in Asia and Latin America. The genes and their gene products involved in the prophenoloxidase activating system, which is considered to be a non-self recognition and defence system in many invertebrates, have been isolated and characterised in shrimp. 7. Insect immunity : Inducible antibacterial proteins from Hyalophora cecropia
Sammanfattning : A powerful bactericidal activity can be induced in the hemolymph of many insects as a response to an injection of bacteria. The nature of the effector molecules of this immune response was investigated, using pupae of the Cecropia moth, Hyalophora cecropia. LÄS MER
8. Calcium transport in the Pacific oyster, Crassostrea gigas - in a changing environment
Sammanfattning : Pacific oyster, Crassostrea gigas, is globally one of the most important farmed bivalve species. A prominent features of the C. gigas is the thick CaCO3 shell covering the body of the animal and protecting it from the environment. LÄS MER
9. Innate Immune Proteins in a Crustacean Pacifastacus leniusculus
Sammanfattning : Hemocytes (blood cells) are important in the immune defense against pathogens in invertebrates. In crusteacean, the hemocytes and plasma components mount a strong innate immune response against different pathogens including bacteria and virus. LÄS MER
10. Identification and characterisation of five innate immune genes in the cabbage looper Trichoplusia ni
Sammanfattning : When insects are infected with bacteria, they respond by producing a range of different antibacterial peptides and by activating protease cascades leading to coagulation and melanisation. Cellular defence mechanisms are also involved in killing of microorganisms through phagocytosis and encapsulation. LÄS MER
