  1. 21. Expression of stimulatory and inhibitory molecules in interactions between natural killer cells neurons

    Författare :Eva Backström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Nervous system; brain; neuron; NK cells; dorsal root ganglia; hippocampus; NKG2D; RAE 1; MULT1; nerve lesion; influenza virus; MCMV.;

    Sammanfattning : Natural killer (NK) cells are important effector cells of the innate and the early induced immune defense. In the nervous system they appear early during inflammation and have been ascribed a role in clearance of certain viral infections from the brain. NK cells are regulated by multiple signals transmitted via inhibitory and stimulatory receptors. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Effects of intervertebral disc cells on neural tissue. In vitro and in vivo experimental studies

    Författare :Karin Larsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Intervertebral disc; nerve damage; nucleus pulposus; notochordal cells; chondrocyte-like cells;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction: Lumbar disc herniation and sciatica are common conditions that involve interactions between intervertebral discs (IVDs) and neural tissue. The nucleus pulposus (NP) of an IVD contains at least two cell populations, notochordal cells and chondrocyte-like cells. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Neuronal tracers for fine caliber spinal primary afferents and their response to peripheral nerve injury

    Författare :H Fredrik Wang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Rat; Primary afferents; Dorsal root ganglion; Peripheral nerve injury; Spinal cord; Isolectin GSA I-B4; Soybean agglutinin; Cholera toxin B subunit; Horseradish peroxidase; Immunohistochemistry; Neuronal tracing;

    Sammanfattning : The isolectin B4 from Griffonia simplicifolia I (B4) and soybean agglutinin from the plant Glycine max (SBA), have been shown to bind to rat small-diameter dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons, and to fibers and presumed terminals in laminae I-II of the spinal cord dorsal horn. In the present thesis, these lectins and/or their horseradish peroxidase (HRP) conjugates, have been investigated in the rat with regard to their usefulness as selective neuronal markers of and axonally transported tracers for somatic and/or visceral spinal primary afferents with fine caliber, including unmyelinated, axons. 4. 24. Tetrodotoxin-resistant sodium channels in neuropathic pain

    Författare :Jenny Fjell Hjelmström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :spinal sensory neurons; nociceptor; IB4; tetrodotoxin; sodium channels; SNS PN3; NaN SNS2; gene regulation; NGF; GDNF; in situ hybridization; immunofluorescence; sodium currents; neuropathic pain models; Taiep;

    Sammanfattning : Injury to the peripheral nervous system can cause neuropathic pain. Abnormal sodium channel activity has been implicated as a source of ectopic firing and changes in nociceptive threshold following nerve injury. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Investigating a cell replacement therapy in the inner ear

    Författare :Zhengqing Hu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Adult neural stem cell; Cell therapy; Differentiation; Dorsal root ganglion; Embryonic stem cell; Gene transfer; Hearing loss; Nerve growth factor; Neurogenin; Organ of Corti; Spiral ganglion; Transplantation;

    Sammanfattning : The mammalian auditory system is sensitive to genetic disorders, aging and injuries caused by overstimulation, ototoxic drugs and viral infections. Since the sensory epithelium (the organ of Corti) and the spiral ganglion neurons (SGNs) in adult mammalian do not regenerate spontaneously when they are damaged, a cell substitution strategy was proposed to compensate the function of the degenerated SGNs.
