16. Sesquiterpene synthases in Artemisia annua: Cloning, Expression, and Characterisation of the Recombinant Enzymes
Sammanfattning : Plants produce a multitude of different compounds that may have biotic effects. Artemisia annua, produces a compound used as a drug against multi-drug-resistant strains of Plasmodium falciparum, the parasite causing malaria. LÄS MER
17. Numerical modeling of fluid flow and solute transport in rock fractures
Sammanfattning : This study focuses on numerical modeling of fluid flow and solute transport in rough-walled rock fractures and fracture-matrix systems, with the main aim to investigate the impacts of fracture surface roughness on flow and transport processes in rock fractures. Both 2D and 3D fracture models were built from laser-scanned surface tomography of a real granite rock sample, to consider realistic features of surface tomography and potential asperity contacts. 18. Fluid Dynamics of a Wurster-type Fluidized Bed - A Numerical and Experimental Study
Sammanfattning : The fluid dynamics of a Wurster bed, a fluidized bed used in the pharmaceutical industry for the coating of small particles or pellets, is investigated numerically and experimentally. The main objective of the thesis is to obtain greater knowledge of the flow properties in the Wurster bed. LÄS MER
19. Fighting flameless fires : Initiating and extinguishing self-sustainedsmoldering fires in wood pellets
Sammanfattning : Smoldering fires represent domestic, environmental and industrial hazards. This flameless form of combustion is more easily initiated than flaming, and is also more persistent and difficult to extinguish. The growing demand for non-fossil fuels has increased the use of solid biofuels such as biomass. LÄS MER
20. Bacterioplankton population dynamics in a changing ocean
Sammanfattning : Bacterioplankton is characterized by high diversity, short generation times and rapid turnover. Despite their small size, these numerous microorganisms are a fundamental piece of aquatic ecosystems by channeling carbon to higher trophic levels through dissolved organic matter utilization.
