    Sammanfattning : Tendon injuries and tendinopathy are common disorders, but the underlying mechanisms are not well understood. The overall aim of this thesis was to better understand the mechanisms underlying tendon healing, pain, and inflammation. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Hematopoiesis in a Crustacean

    Författare :Xionghui Lin; Irene Söderhäll; Kenneth Söderhäll; Michael J. Williams; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; astakine; cytokine; hematopoiesis; prokineticin; transglutaminase; ATP synthase; innate immunity; apoptosis; Immunology; Immunologi; Biology with specialization in Comparative Physiology; Biologi med inriktning mot jämförande fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Hemocytes (blood cells) play an important role in the immune response in invertebrates, and thus the regulation of hemocyte homeostasis (hematopoiesis) is essential for the host survival against pathogens. Astakine 1, a homologue to vertebrate prokineticins, was first identified in the freshwater crayfish Pacifastacus leniusculus as a cytokine, and was found to be necessary for new hemocyte synthesis and release in vivo, and also to induce spreading and proliferation of Hematopoietic tissue cells (Hpt cells, precursor of hemocytes) in vitro. 3. 3. Function and Regulation of B-cell Subsets in Experimental Autoimmune Arthritis

    Författare :Anna-Karin E. Palm; Sandra Kleinau; Susanna Cardell; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; B cells; marginal zone; autoimmune arthritis; spleen; lymph node; antigen presentation; Fc gamma receptor IIb; complement receptors 1 and 2; mast cells; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär immunologi; Biology with specialization in Molecular Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : B lymphocytes play a significant role in autoimmune arthritis, with their function stretching beyond autoantibody production to cytokine secretion and presentation of autoantigen. However, the involvement and activation of different B-cell subset in the autoimmune response is not fully clear. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : In the last decade cancer immunotherapy has taken huge strides forward from bench to bedside and being approved as drugs. Cancer immunotherapy harnesses the power of patient’s own immune system to fight cancer. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Generating Dendritic Cells by Direct Cell Reprogramming. Merging cellular reprogramming with immunology towards the development of novel cancer immunotherapies

    Författare :Fábio Fiúza Rosa; Avdelningen för molekylärmedicin och genterapi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Dendritic Cell; Direct Cell Reprogramming; Single-cell analysis; Immunotherapy;

    Sammanfattning : Cell fate reprogramming towards pluripotency or alternative somatic cell-types has highlighted the plasticity of adult somatic cells, providing new technologies to generate desired cell types for tissue repair or for disease modeling. There is momentum to bring these concepts to immunology by specifying unique immune cellular identities that set in motion immune responses. LÄS MER
