This dissertation takes its departure from the methodology of German Begriffsgeschichte and sets out to explore the use of the concept of happiness in Swedish chapbooks (skillingtryck).The period considered, 1750-1850, frames the transition from early modern to modern society, a time that has often been labeled Sattelzeit or Schwellenzeit. Sammanfattning :
How did people in 17th- and 18th-century Sweden understand and evaluate magic? To what extent did the attitudes of different social groups vary and how did they change during this period of substantial mental and social upheaval? The aim of this thesis is to examine these questions through a study of legislation, court records and writings of the educated élite. Attitudes towards magic are investigated from five different aspects: terminology and definitions (Which terms were used to signify magical phenomena and how were these terms defined?), contrasts (Which kinds of phenomena were seen as the opposites of magic?), values (How were different kinds of magic valued - as good or bad, permitted or forbidden?), beliefs (To what degree did people consider magic real or doubt its existence?), and measures (How was it thought appropriate to deal with magical rites and conceptions?). This dissertation deals with the concepts glasnost and perestroika during the Gorbachev era 1985–1991. It offers an explanation to the rise and fall of these concepts and casts light on their modern and postmodern implications, as well as their historical and generational preconditions. LÄS MER

This thesis studies the uses of the concept of revolution in Swedish socialist press from 1917 to 1924. Political revolution and civil wars shook several countries. The Russian February and October Revolutions were soon followed by uprisings in countries such as Germany and Finland. LÄS MER

This dissertation analyzes the concept of democracy as it was used in the official rhetoric of the Swedish SocialDemocratic Party (SAP ) between 1919 and 1939. Theoretically, the dissertation relies on German Begriffsgeschichte, as put forward by Reinhart Koselleck, and Michael Freeden’s theory of ideologies. LÄS MER
