  1. 11. Cognitive function studied in animal models of schizophrenia

    Författare :Erik Pålsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; phencyclidine; nitric oxide; prepulse inhibition; latent; nitric oxide; prepulse inhibition; latent inhibition; habituation; NMDA receptor; rat; mouse; cognition; schizophrenia;

    Sammanfattning : Cognitive dysfunction is considered a core deficit of schizophrenia, which currently lacks effective pharmacological treatment. In order to identify novel and more effective drug treatments, translational experimental animal models of cognitive dysfunction are required. Schizophrenia-like symptoms can be induced in humans by phencyclidine (PCP). LÄS MER

  2. 12. Aspects on lipoprotein lipase and atherosclerosis

    Författare :Lucyna Neuger; Philip Barter; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Clinical physiology; Klinisk fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Lipoprotein lipase (LPL) hydrolyses blood lipids at the vascular endothelium. This action makes fatty acids available for tissue metabolic requirements. LPL is anchored to the endothelium by electrostatic forces and may act as a bridge connecting lipoproteins to cell surfaces. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Comparative genome and proteome analysis of brain tissue from MK-801-treated rats

    Författare :Linda Paulson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Schizophrenia; MK-801; rat; animal model; proteomics; genomics;

    Sammanfattning : Symptoms of intoxication with non-competitive N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA)-receptor antagonists, closely mimic symptoms in patients with schizophrenia, and therefore [+]-5-methyl-10,11-dihydro-5H-dibenzo-[a,d]-cycloheptene-5,10-iminehydrogen-maleate (MK-801, dizocilpine) treated rodents are often used as a model for schizophrenia. To investigate if administration of the NMDA receptor antagonist MK-801 to rats would induce messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) or protein disturbances mimicking those observed in schizophrenic patients, complementary deoxyribonucleic acid (cDNA) microarrays and two-dimensional gel-electrophoresis in combination with mass spectrometry were used, respectively. 4. 14. Models and biomarkers of motor and neuropsychiatric complications in Parkinson’s disease

    Författare :Katrine Skovgård; Basala gangliernas patofysiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Parkinson s disease Parkinsonism; Dyskinesia; Drug-Induced; Oscillations; Local field potentials; Impulsive-compulsive behaviours; Dopamine agonists; Animal Models; Pharmacology;

    Sammanfattning : Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterised by typicalmotor symptoms that are caused by severe dopamine depletion in the cortico-basalganglia network. Parkinsonian motor symptoms are improved by dopaminergicmedications, the most effective being the dopamine precursor L-DOPA. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Schizophrenia and Nitric Oxide: Deficits in Information Processing Invetigated in Animal Models

    Författare :Daniel Klamer; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; phencyclidine – nitric oxide – prepulse inhibition – habituation – acoustic startle – cAMP – in vivo microdialysis – NMDA receptor – rat – mouse – schizophrenia;

    Sammanfattning : Rationale: Schizophrenia-like symptoms can be induced in humans by phencyclidine (PCP), a non-competitive antagonist of the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor. Schizophrenic patients and PCP-treated animals display deficits in pre-attentive information processing, as assessed by e.g. prepulse inhibition of the acoustic startle response. LÄS MER
