  1. 16. Cross transfer effects after unilateral muscle overuse : an experimental animal study about alterations in the morphology and the tachykinin system of muscles

    Författare :Yafeng Song; Per Stål; Sture Forsgren; Fawzi Kadi; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Triceps surae; overuse; contralateral; muscle; muscle fiber; MyHC; capillary; tachykinin; substance P; NK-1R; inflammation; anatomi; Human Anatomy;

    Sammanfattning : Unilateral exercise can produce certain contralateral strength effects. Deleterious events can be cross-transferred as well, as illustrated by a strict symmetry in some chronic inflammatory diseases. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Behavior and cytogenesis following irradiation or isoflurane exposure to the developing brain

    Författare :Niklas Karlsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; radiotherapy; isoflurane; anesthesia; hippocampus; neurogenesis; memory; learning; intellicage; dentate gyrus; trace fear conditioning; open field; object recognition;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, the effects of an anesthetic agent, isoflurane, on the young brain and resulting behavioral effects were investigated. Anesthesia is commonly used in young children during surgery or other procedures associated with pain or discomfort. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Ovarian steroids in rat and human brain : effects of different endocrine states

    Författare :Marie Bixo; Bengt Winblad; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Progesterone; 5a-pregnane-3.20-dione; estradiol; testosterone; rat brain; human brain; PMSG-model; steroid anaesthesia;

    Sammanfattning : Ovarian steroid hormones are known to produce several different effects in the brain. In addition to their role in gonadotropin release, ovulation and sexual behaviour they also seem to affect mood and emotions, as shown in women with the premenstrual tension syndrome. Some steroids have the ability to affect brain excitability. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Reward-related genes and alcohol dependence

    Författare :Sara Landgren; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; alcohol; dependence; reward; smoking; body weight; gene; polymorphism; nAChR; ghrelin; GHS-R1A;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction: The rewarding properties of alcohol are mediated by the brain reward systems, specifically by the cholinergic-dopaminergic reward link, involving both nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) as well as the ghrelin signalling system. The susceptibility for developing alcohol dependence is influenced by genetic factors. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Generation of Dopaminergic Neurons from Human Embryonic Stem Cells

    Författare :Tandis Vazin; Joakim Lundeberg; Ernest Arenas; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Human; dopaminergic; embryonic stem cells; differentiation; stromal cells; PA6 cells; dopamine; neurons; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap; Neurobiology; Neurobiologi; Molecular neurobiology; Molekylär neurobiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Since the first successful derivation of human embryonic stem cells (hESC), rapid progress has been attained in the development of strategies in differentiation of these cells into various neural lineages, with the fundamental objective of using these cells for replacement and repair of damaged neuronal circuits in the central nervous system (CNS). Of particular interest are midbrain dopaminergic (mDA) neurons, which play a central role in regulation of voluntary movement. LÄS MER
