  1. 1. Heart and lung function - in health and disease : methodological studies in clinical physiology

    Författare :Sofia Erelund; Nina Sundström; Urban Wiklund; Sandra Arvidsson; Bengt Johansson; Carl-Johan Carlhäll; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; clinical physiology; reference materials; ECG; dynamic spirometry; HRV; rheumatoid arthritis; cardiovascular disease; ischemic heart disease; Clinical Physiology; klinisk fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The human heart and lungs constitute an intricate and dynamic system. Various clinical physiological examinations can be used to evaluate cardio-pulmonary function and identify abnormalities. Thus, it is important to understand how normal physiology presents, to be able to identify pathological findings. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Autonomic reactivity in muscle pain : clinical and experimental assessment

    Författare :Nebojsa Kalezic; Eugene Lyskov; Stein Knardahl; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; autonomic reactivity; stress; chronic pain; experimental pain; back; shoulder; neck; Physiology; Fysiologi; Physiology;

    Sammanfattning : There are numerous indications of possible involvement of the autonomic nervous system in the genesis of chronic pain. The possibility exists that sympathetic activation is related to motor dysfunction and changes in sensory processing, which have otherwise been implicated in musculoskeletal disorders. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Autonomic cardiac control in long QT syndrome : clinical studies of arrhythmogenic triggers

    Författare :Anna Lundström; Annika Rydberg; Urban Wiklund; Håkan Eliasson; Jacob Tfelt-Hansen; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Long QT syndrome; pediatrics; exercise; Holter; water immersion; arrhythmia; clinical physiology; ECG; heart rate variability; heart rate response; cardiovascular disease; hjärt- och kärlforskning; kardiologi; Cardiology; pediatrik; Pediatrics;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Long QT syndrome (LQTS) is an inherited cardiac disease characterized by prolonged cardiac repolarization and an increased risk for life-threatening arrhythmias. These arrhythmias are typically triggered by adrenergic stimuli, such as physical activity and intense emotions, implicating that the sympathetic part of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) is involved in arrhythmogenesis. 4. 4. Physiology of Adventure Racing : with emphasis on circulatory response and cardiac fatigue

    Författare :C. Mikael Mattsson; Björn Ekblom; Keith P George; Gymnastik- och idrottshögskolan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cardiovascular drift; cardiac fatigue; adventure race; cardiac biomarkers; cardoac function; exercise echocardiography; Physiology; Fysiologi; Cardiology; Kardiologi; Sports; Idrott; Medicin Teknik; Medicine Technology;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aims of this thesis were to elucidate the circulatory responses to ultra-endurance exercise (Adventure Racing), and furthermore, to contribute to the clarification of the so called “exercise-induced cardiac fatigue” in relation to said exercise. An Adventure race (AR) varies in duration from six hours to over six days, in which the participants have to navigate through a number of check-points over a pre-set course, using a combination of three or more endurance/outdoor sports, e. 5. 5. Ventilation and Lung Volume During Sleep and in Obstructive Sleep Apnea

    Författare :Jonas Appelberg; Göran Hedenstierna; Christer Janson; Karl Franklin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology; Sleep; Ventilation; Sleep apnea syndromes; Snoring; Lung volume; Respiration; Computed tomography; Ventilatory response; Ventilation-perfusion; Airway closure; Fysiologi; Physiology; Fysiologi; klinisk fysiologi; Clinical Physiology;

    Sammanfattning : Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) appears to affect up to 5% of the population. The extent to what pulmonary function awake and during sleep relates to obstructive breathing and hypoxemia during sleep in these patients is unclear. LÄS MER
