  1. 16. Optimising pulmonary gas exchange in anaesthetised horses : unravelling the role of pulsed inhaled nitric oxide using computed tomography angiography of the lung

    Författare :Adam Auckburally; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Mortality rates in healthy, anaesthetised horses are higher than in most other species. Hypotension, hypoxaemia and hypoventilation are implicated as risk factors, which develop due to the combined effects of general anaesthesia and recumbency. Hypoxaemia is largely a consequence of ventilation perfusion (V̇ /Q̇ ) mismatch. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Lung aeration and pulmonary gas exchange during general and epidural anaesthesia : Influenced by inspired oxygen concentration and diaphragm shape

    Författare :Adrian Reber; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; Anesthesia: epidural; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Clinical Physiology; klinisk fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Induction of general anaesthesia causes a rapid decrease in functional residual capacity, which can promote alveolar collapse (atelectasis) and airway closure in dependent lung regions. Mismatching of ventilation and perfusion (VA/Q) in the lungs is accompanied by impairment of pulmonary gas exchange. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Neurally adjusted ventilatory assist : from animal studies to clinical practice

    Författare :Francesca Campoccia Jalde; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Neurally Adjusted Ventilatory Assist;

    Sammanfattning : Patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) undergoing ventilator treatment may experience asynchrony with the ventilator, which has been associated with increased need of sedation, sleep disruption, prolonged mechanical ventilation and unsuccessful weaning from the ventilator. The search for new strategies to improve patient-ventilator interaction is ongoing. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Effects of gravity and posture on the human lung

    Författare :Malin Rohdin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Acceleration; cardiac output; cardiogenic oscillations; closing volume; gas exchange; heart I-ate; human centrifuge; hypergravity; lung diffusing capacity; prone posture; pulmonary-capillary blood volume; rebreathing; single-breath washout; supine;

    Sammanfattning : The presence of the gravitational force at the surface of Earth affects all of the organ systems in landliving creatures. The function of the lung is particularly susceptible to changes in the direction and magnitude of gravity because of the elastic structure of this organ. LÄS MER
