11. Chronic anterior cruciate ligament tear : knee function and knee extensor muscle size, morphology and function before and after surgical reconstruction
Sammanfattning : Knee function was evaluated by knee score, activity level, clinical findings and performance tests, muscle size by computerized tomography (CT), morphology by light (LM) and electron microscopy (EM), muscle function by electromyography (EMG) and isokinetic performance in 29 patients with chronic anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear. Preoperatively CT disclosed a significant mean atrophy of the quadriceps and nonsignificant changes of the other muscle areas of the injured leg. LÄS MER
12. Studies on the regulation of human skeletal muscle lipolysis in vivo
Sammanfattning : Intramuscular triglyceride deposits are a significant energy source, and are considered to be of importance in the pathogenesis of skeletal muscle insulin resistance. In contrast to adipose tissue, the lipolytic process in skeletal muscle is not well characterised. LÄS MER
13. Distribution, total number and size of different types of fibres in male and female skeletal muscles : an enzyme histochemical study of whole muscle cross-sections
Sammanfattning : In order to investigate the total number, relative proportions, size variations and distribution patterns of fibres of different types in human skeletal muscles, a technique was developed which allows whole muscle cross-sections to be collected and stained enzyme histochemically. Necropsy material was obtained from m. tibialis anterior and m. LÄS MER
14. Exercise-induced mitochondrial biogenesis : with special reference to mitochondrial transcription factors and lipin-1
Sammanfattning : Mitochondrial biogenesis is one prominent adaptation to endurance training in skeletal muscle tissue. An increased mitochondrial density of the muscle fibres contributes to an enhanced aerobic capacity and thereby to improved fatigue-resistance. LÄS MER
15. Physical exercise as a targeted therapy in idiopathic inflammatory myopathies
Sammanfattning : Idiopathic inflammatory myopathies are comprised of polymyositis (PM) and dermatomyositis (DM) with muscle impairment being the primary clinical feature. With the currently recommended treatment regimen, a majority of patients develop sustained impaired muscle performance and poor health for undetermined reasons. LÄS MER
