  1. 6. The role of pain modulation in non-suicidal self-injury

    Författare :Jens Fust; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Individuals with non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) behavior tend to report feeling little or no pain when they self-injure. Moreover, in laboratory studies the NSSI population tends to demonstrate reduced sensitivity to painful stimuli. There is reason to believe that hypoalgesia could be a risk factor for developing and maintaining NSSI. LÄS MER

  2. 7. On the therapeutic potential of cancer drugs for spinal cord injury

    Författare :Jacob Kjell; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Spinal cord injury progresses in two stages. After the damage-causing physical event, comes an extended period when additional loss of cells and nerve fibers will occur and inflammatory and scar forming processes will come to prevail. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Variations in the regulation of pain genes after nerve injury : with focus on sodium channels

    Författare :Anna-Karin Persson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Chronic neuropathic pain is a burdensome clinical condition that causes major suffering for countless of individuals worldwide. It is characterized by a hyperreactive nervous system with hyperexcitable neurons that fire in the absence of stimuli or at mild stimuli, causing pain. LÄS MER

  4. 9. The role of the endothelin system in experimental acute lung injury : with special reference to the formation of extra-vascular lung water

    Författare :Patrik Rossi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Acute lung injury; endothelin-1; extra-vascular lung water; pulmonary capillary pressure; sepsis; pulmonary edema; endotoxin;

    Sammanfattning : Acute lung injury is a major clinical challenge in the intensive care unit. Sepsis is the most frequent underlying cause of this pulmonary syndrome, which contains inflammation-induced diffuse alveolar damage and early stage high permeability edema. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Contribution of the sensory nervous system : an experimental study in the rat

    Författare :Olle Löfgren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :edema; hindpaw withdrawal latency HWL ; inflammation; microcirculation; scalding; sensory nervous system; sensory neuropeptide antagonists; sensory neuropeptides; thermal injury;

    Sammanfattning : The pathophysiological background to burn induced inflammatory reactions is poorly understood and present therapy options are limited. A model of thermal injury was developed to enable investigations of the acute inflammatory reactions in the periphery as well as of the transmission of nociception at the spinal cord level. LÄS MER
