  1. 1. The EEG of the Newborn Brain - Detection of Hypoxia and Prediction of Outcome

    Författare :Nils Löfgren; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; telemedicine; neonatal; prediction; infraslow EEG; cerebral; entropy; asphyxia; EEG; VLFA; hypoxia; Kolmogorov complexity; qEEG; detection; spectral estimation; newborn;

    Sammanfattning : Brain function requires a continuous flow of oxygen and an insufficient supply (hypoxia) for a few minutes during the first period of life may have severe consequences; consequences which might impact both the life of the individual who has been struck and his or her family. Therefore, there is a need to find a method which can enable the detection of an insufficient oxygen supply at an early stage, before brain damage becomes permanent. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Brain maturation, cognitive tasks, and quantitative electroencephalography : a study in children with attention deficit hyperactive disorder

    Författare :Eman Mohamed El-Sayed; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :ADHD; twin study; twin design; case control study; maturation; developmental trajectories; maturational lag hypothesis; brain immaturity; QEEG; Vigilance Task; Delay Task;

    Sammanfattning : Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is one of the most common psychiatric disorders of childhood. Despite a long history, widespread clinical acceptance, and extensive research, the diagnosis and treatment are still controversial. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Multimodal phenotyping of synaptic damage in Alzheimer’s disease : translational perspective with focus on quantitative EEG

    Författare :Una Smailovic; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder and the most common form of dementia. Accumulation of AD-associated pathology in the brain may begin a decade or more before the appearance of the first symptoms of the disease. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease : focus on quantitative EEG in relation to genetic, biochemical and neuroimaging markers

    Författare :Vesna Jelic; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The main aims of this thesis were to explore whether quantitative EEG (qEEG) variables could be considered as positive markers of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and sensitive indices of disease progression and treatment effects, as well as to determine their relation to currently existing genetic, biochemical and neuroimaging markers. The main findings of seven subsequent studies are summarized as follows: 1) Combined alpha and theta relative power and temporo-parietal alpha band coherence were the best combination of qEEG variables for the discrimination of mild to moderate AD patients and healthy controls, giving 89% overall correct classification accuracy. 5. 5. Mild cognitive impairment neuroimaging markers for early diagnosis of dementia

    Författare :Chaorui Huang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns the investigation of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and Alzheimer's disease (AD) using single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) and quantitative electroencepholography (qEEG). In study I, The qEEG values were cross-sectionally compared between AD, MCI and controls. LÄS MER
