  1. 16. Wave Loads and Peak Forces on Moored Wave Energy Devices in Tsunamis and Extreme Waves

    Författare :Linnea Sjökvist; Malin Göteman; Mats Leijon; Peter Stansby; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; OpenFOAM; CFD; Wave power; Tsunami waves; Extreme waves; Offshore; Engineering Science with specialization in Science of Electricity; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot elektricitetslära;

    Sammanfattning : Surface gravity waves carry enormous amounts of energy over our oceans, and if their energy could be harvested to generate electricity, it could make a significant contribution to the worlds power demand. But the survivability of wave energy devices in harsh operating conditions has proven challenging, and for wave energy to be a possibility, peak forces during storms and extreme waves must be studied and the devices behaviour understood. Sammanfattning : The global energy sector is under profound reforms aiming towards renewable energy sources, clean technologies and expansion of smart grids, all with the additional aim of providing affordable and dependable electricity for everyone. A reduction of carbon dioxide emissions is a priority on the global agenda, and to achieve that, cleaner energy technologies has to be more integrated into the energy mix. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Medium Voltage Generation System with Five-level NPC Converters for Kite Tidal Power

    Författare :Georgios Mademlis; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Voltage balancing; Maximum Power Point Tracking MPPT ; Medium Voltage Converters; Multilevel Space-Vector-Modulation; Neutral point clamped converter NPC ; Subsea kite; Tidal power;

    Sammanfattning : Offshore power generation has emerged as a prominent source of energy and the installed capacity of new plants has been steadily increasing in recent years. Tidal power specifically is a promising renewable energy source which has not been highly exploited yet, despite its distinctive advantages of being predictable and independent of weather conditions. Sammanfattning : In order to achieve net zero emissions from the electricity sector, the proportion of renewable energy sources connected to the electrical grid needs to be increased significantly in the coming years. Established renewable energy sources, such as wind power and solar power, will certainly be crucial in achieving this. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Experimental Results of a Load-Controlled Vertical Axis Marine Current Energy Converter

    Författare :Johan Forslund; Mats Leijon; Karin Thomas; Jan Sundberg; Tom Blackmore; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Marine Current; Vertical Axis; Load Control; ; Engineering Science with specialization in Science of Electricity; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot elektricitetslära;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates the load control of a marine current energy converter using a vertical axis turbine mounted on a permanent magnet synchronous generator. The purpose of this thesis is to show the work done in the so far relatively uncharted territory of control systems for hydro kinetic energy conversion. LÄS MER
