  1. 21. A novel single skeletal muscle cell in vitro motility assay : effects of aging and non-enzymatic glycosylation on myosin function

    Författare :Peter Höök; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :In vitro motility; motility speed; aging; single muscle fiber; myosin isoform; temperature; scaling; glycation;

    Sammanfattning : The aims of this study were to develop a single skeletal muscle fiber in vitro motility assay, and to employ the assay in order to study the effects of aging and non-enzymatic glycosylation on the mechanical properties of the motor protein myosin in an attempt to improve our understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying the aging-related impairment in regulation of muscle function. Myosin was extracted from a millimeter short single muscle fiber segment directly onto a nitrocellulosecoated coverslip for subsequent analyses of the functional properties of the motor protein. 2. 22. Deactivation of diesel oxidation catalysts

    Författare :Jonas Andersson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Accelerated aging: Diesel exhaust: Oxidation catalyst: Sulfur deactivation: Phosphorous poisoning: CO oxidation: Pt dispersion: Al2O3: Sintering: TEM: XPS;

    Sammanfattning : To meet the demand for heavy- and light-duty diesel vehicles on expansive markets while complying with current and future emission standards, it is necessary to reinsure the long-livety of the applied exhaust aftertreatment technology. Loss of catalytic performance may be associated with environmental as well as economical consequences. LÄS MER

  3. 23. The non-human primate as a model of human parkinsonism

    Författare :Alison McCormack; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Parkinson s disease; substantia nigra; aging; neuromelanin; MPTP; alpha-synuclein; levodopa; dyskinesia; methamphetamine;

    Sammanfattning : The motor deficits seen in Parkinson’s disease (PD) are the result of a loss of catecholaminergic neurons from the substantia nigra (SN) and the associated loss of striatal dopamine. Clinical signs become evident once striatal dopamine levels decline by at least 70-80% and nigral cell numbers by 40%, and worsen with increased duration of the disease. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Mouse models for understanding the molecular mechanism of bone disease in Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome

    Författare :Eva Schmidt; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Aging is a complex process affecting all people. Intense research is applied to elucidate the biological basis of aging and disease that develop with aging. Studies of progeroid syndromes, where aging happens in an accelerated speed, might be useful to understand the molecular mechanisms in physiological aging. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Molecular insights into Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome and age-associated disease : from mechanisms to treatment strategy

    Författare :Gwladys Revêchon; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Aging is a complex process that occurs as we grow old and is associated with a gradual decline of tissue functions. Scientists have been trying to understand the mechanisms that drive such phenomenon by studying premature aging syndromes and aging-related disorders. LÄS MER
