1. Towards Fully Optimized BICM Transmissions
Sammanfattning : Bit-interleaved coded modulation (BICM) was introduced in 1992 as a new coded modulation (CM) scheme particularly well suited for fading channels and is nowadays considered the de facto CM scheme in wireless standards (HSPA, IEEE 802.11a/g/n, DVB-T2/S2/C2, etc.). LÄS MER
2. On the labeling of Signal Constellations
Sammanfattning : The work in this thesis studies a simple model of a digital communication system in which the transmitter operates on a sequence of information bits by grouping them into blocks of m bits and mapping such blocks onto one out of M = 2m waveforms, which is transmitted over the channel. The receiver recovers the original message by demapping the transmitted signals disturbed by noise back to m-bit blocks using maximum-likelihood symbol detection. LÄS MER
3. Computerized Alignment and Deformation Correction of Microscopic Serial Section Images of Nervous Tissue
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes an investigation into digital techniques for image alignment and deformation correction with special reference to serial light and electron microscopic images. These techniques are applied in three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction of nervous tissue, especially the superficial gray matter of the brain - cortex cerebri. LÄS MER
4. On Bit-interleaved Coded Modulation with QAM Constellations
Sammanfattning : Bit-interleaved coded modulation (BICM) is a flexible modulation/coding scheme which allows the designer to choose a modulation constellation independently of the coding rate. This is because the output of the channel encoder and the input to the modulator are separated by a bit-level interleaver. LÄS MER
5. Online optical method for real-time surface measurement using line-of-light triangulation
Sammanfattning : Real time paper surface-web measurement is one of the challenging research fields. The traditional laboratory method has many limitations and is unable to measure the entire tambour during the manufacturing process. It has been necessary to develop an online technique that could measure the surface topography in real time. LÄS MER
