26. Essays in Labor and Demographic Economics
Sammanfattning : Essay 1: (co-written with Olof Åslund) We study the impact of family size on intermediate and long-term outcomes using twin births as an exogenous source of varia¬tion in family size in an unusually rich dataset. Similar to recent studies, we find no evidence of a causal effect on long-term outcomes and show that not taking selection effects into account will likely overstate the effects. LÄS MER

28. Essays on Immigrants' Economic Integration
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of five papers, related to each other in terms of study-sample, study-subject or methods used. The first paper is concerned with second-generation immigrants' educational attainments, using the Longitudinal Individual Data-set (LINDA), which gave us the possibility to examine changes over time, from ages 16-17 to 21-22 and to compare second-generation immigrants with a randomly-chosen matched control-group of native Swedes. 30. Structural Change, Match Quality, and Integration in the Labor Market
Sammanfattning : Essay I: Are workers with poor outside opportunities less responsive and more susceptible to negative demand shifts in routine occupations? To answer this, I create and estimate an occupation specialization index (OSI) using Swedish register data and machine learning tools. It measures the expected difference in utility between a worker's occupation and his best non-routine outside option. LÄS MER
