Intellectual disability in a forensic psychiatric setting

Sammanfattning: The main focus of this thesis was to increase knowledge of offenders with ID in forensic psychiatric settings. Offenders with ID constitute a subgroup of offenders, and they have played a peripheral role in previous research on offenders with mental disorders. One explanation might be the differences in classification and diagnostics of ID in research settings, reflected in the heterogeneity of the group. As a result, evidence-based programs for treatment of offenders with ID are lacking. However, the challenges that these individuals face are substantial, and to provide individualized care and prevent criminal recidivism, a deeper understanding of these offenders is needed.
