    Sammanfattning : Do metal particles (including particles of pure metals, alloys, metal oxides and compounds) pose a hazard or risk to human health? In the light of this question, this thesis summarizes results from research conducted on metal particles, and describes the elaboration and implementation of an in vitro test methodology to study metal release from particles through corrosion and dissolution processes in synthetic biological media relevant for human exposure through inhalation/ingestion and dermal contact. Bioaccessible metals are defined as the pool of released metals from particles that potentially could be made available for absorption by humans or other organisms. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Characterisation of an in vitro dissolution method for assessment of novel pulmonary drug delivery systems : With a focus on controlled release systems

    Författare :Irès van der Zwaan; Göran Frenning; Per Hansson; Rebecca Fransson; Alessandra Rossi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pulmonary drug delivery; in vitro dissolution; mechanistic model; controlled release; physiologically based biopharmaceutics modelling;

    Sammanfattning : Pulmonary drug delivery has been used for decades to treat local diseases like asthma. When using the pulmonary route to deliver drugs, several important lung features are being used, such as a large surface area available for absorption, high organ vascularization, and a thin blood-alveolar barrier. 3. 3. Interaction Between Microgels and Oppositely Charged Peptides

    Författare :Helena Bysell; Martin Malmsten; Per Hansson; Walter Richtering; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; antimicrobial peptides; binding; cationic peptides; confocal microscopy; deswelling; distribution; electrostatic; homopolypeptides; microgels; peptides; release; swelling; PHARMACY; FARMACI; Pharmaceutical Physical Chemistry; farmaceutisk fysikalisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Lightly cross-linked polyelectrolyte microgels are materials with interesting properties for a range of applications. For instance, the volume of these particles can be drastically changed in response to pH, ionic strength, temperature, or the concentration of specific ions and metabolites. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Semipermeable membrane devices as integrative tools for monitoring nonpolar aromatic compounds in air

    Författare :Hanna Söderström; Mats Tysklind; Per-Anders Bergqvist; Jochen F. Muller; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Environmental chemistry; air pollution; alkyl-PAHs; atmosphere; bioavailability; boundary layer; diffusive sampling; emissions; integrative; membrane; monitoring; nitro-PAHs; PAHs; particles; passive samplers; PCBs; plants; PRCs; release rate; sampler design; sources; SPMDs; traffic; uptake rate; wind effect; wood burning; Miljökemi; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Sammanfattning : Air pollutants pose a high risk for humans, and the environment, and this pollution is one of the major environmental problems facing modern society. Active air sampling is the technique that has been traditionally used to monitor nonpolar aromatic air pollutants. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Metal accumulation by plants : evaluation of the use of plants in stormwater treatment

    Författare :Åsa Fritioff; Maria Greger; Lena Kautsky; Bert Wolterbeek; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Elodea canadensis; Potamogeton natans; uptake; translocation; distribution; toxicity; salinity; temperature; and leakage; Plant physiology; Växtfysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Metal contaminated stormwater, i.e. surface runoff in urban areas, can be treated in percolation systems, ponds, or wetlands to prevent the release of metals into receiving waters. Plants in such systems can, for example, attenuate water flow, bind sediment, and directly accumulate metals. LÄS MER
