1. Tissue Factor in Complex : Studies of interactions between blood coagulation proteins
Sammanfattning : Many biological processes rely on specific protein-protein interactions, for example immune responses, cell signaling, transcription, and blood coagulation. Blood coagulation is initiated when a vessel wall is damaged, exposing tissue factor (TF) to the circulating factor VII/factor VIIa (FVII/FVIIa) which results in the formation of the TF:FVIIa complex and thereby the initiation of blood coagulation. 2. Molecular Probing of Local Protein-Protein Interactions : Studies of the tissue factor, factor VIIa complex formation
Sammanfattning : Protein-protein interactions are intrinsic to virtually all cellular processes. However, very little is known about the dynamics of the formation of protein complexes or the order of events that direct the association between two protein molecules (the association pathway), especially when different interacting surfaces are involved. 3. Vitamin K-dependent protein S - studies of synthesis, structure and function
Sammanfattning : This thesis is based on four projects with the overall aim to investigate vitamin K-dependent protein S functions in relation to its structure. The anticoagulant functions of protein S can be divided in three: 1) cofactor for activated protein C (APC), 2) cofactor for tissue factor pathway inhibitor (TFPI) and 3) APC and TFPI-independent anticoagulant functions. 4. Leukemia inhibitor factor (LIF) and gp130 in early defence against HIV-1 infection
Sammanfattning : Leukemia inhibitor factor (LIF) is a polyfunctional cytokine that belongs to the IL-6 family which mainly signals through the Jak/Stat pathway via the gp130/LIFR-α heterodimer. The focus of my research has been to investigate and understand if and how LIF exerts HIV1 suppressing activity. LÄS MER
5. Growth factor regulation of the urokinase plasminogen activator (uPA) system in human endometrium, and the significance of uPA receptor activation in endometrial angiogenesis
Sammanfattning : The purpose of this thesis was to examine the role of growth factors and the urokinase plasminogen activator (uPA) system in human endometrial angiogenesis. Growth factors as well as progesterone increased expression of the main inhibitor of uPA (PAI-1) in primary cultures of endometrial stromal cells. LÄS MER
