1. Constructing and Commissioning HELIOS – A High Harmonic Generation Source for Pump-Probe Measurements with sub 50 fs Temporal Resolution : The Development of Experimental Equipment for Extreme Ultraviolet Spectroscopy
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents HELIOS, an in-house laboratory for time-resolved pump-probe spectroscopy with extreme-ultraviolet (XUV) probe radiation. A wide span of pump wavelengths can be generated using commercial laser equipment while XUV probe radiation is generated via a high harmonic generation process in a noble gas delivering probe photons with energies between 20 eV and 72 eV. 2. The evolution of TOFu : Developing and utilizing neutron time-of-flight spectrometry of deuterium and tritium fusion plasmas at JET
Sammanfattning : Considerable effort has been invested in attempting to generate electricity from the energy released in controlled thermonuclear fusion reactions, with a European fusion research roadmap stretching beyond 2050. Our current endeavors may culminate in a virtually inexhaustible, low-carbon energy source for future generations. LÄS MER
3. The development of a spectrometer for 14 MeV neutrons from fusion

4. Characterisation of the Neutron Wall and of Neutron Interactions in Germanium-Detector Systems
Sammanfattning : A Monte Carlo simulation of the Neutron Wall detector system has been performed using Geant4, in order to define optimum conditions for the detection and identification of multiple neutrons. Emphasis was put on studying the scattering of neutrons between different detectors, which is the main source of the apparent increase of the number of detected neutrons. LÄS MER
5. Fusion Plasma Observations at JET with the TOFOR Neutron Spectrometer : Instrumental Challenges and Physics Results
Sammanfattning : The neutron spectrometer TOFOR was installed at JET in 2005 for high-rate observation of neutrons from reactions between two deuterium (D) ions. Neutron spectrometry as a fusion plasma diagnostic technique is invoked to obtain information about the velocity states of fusion fuel ions. LÄS MER
