  1. 1. Energy based surgical instruments : With particular focus on collateral thermal injury

    Författare :Johan Carlander; Kenth Johansson; Leif Bergkvist; Oliver Gimm; Martin Almquist; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Iatrogenic post-operative nerve dysfunction is a significant problem in many areas of surgery and can be caused by collateral thermal injury from activation of energy based surgical devices (EBD).The aims of this thesis were to: create an animal model in order to compare mono- and bipolar electrosurgery (ES) and an ultrasonic dissection (UD) with regard to collateral thermal nerve injury, and with data of a national multicenter register to study the use of EBD and their potential effects on operation time and complication rates in thyroid surgery. 2. 2. Inactivation, Cell Injury and Growth of Microorganisms Exposed to Pulsed Electric Fields Using a Continuous Process

    Författare :Kristina Aronsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Leuconostoc mesenteroides; PEF; Listeria innocua; cell injury; flow-through treatment chamber; membrane permeabilization; post-processing growth; microbial inactivation; pulsed electric fields; Escherichia coli; Saccharomyces cerevisiae;

    Sammanfattning : Pulsed electric fields (PEF) is a proven technology to inactivate microorganisms under non-thermal conditions. The PEF technology has a potential as a "quality friendly" alternative to traditional methods of food preservation. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Heat-Induced Cell Membrane Injury of Vegetable Tissues -An applied study on potatoes

    Författare :Gerardo Gonzalez-M; Livsmedelsteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Livsmedelsteknik; Food and drink technology; PME; active transport; Cell membrane injury; potatoes;

    Sammanfattning : Heat processing of vegetables involves the use of temperatures above the physiological limit which affect the cellular structures of the tissue and induce a series of events at cell level that will in turn be reflected in the transport properties of the tissue. One of the most important cellular structures from the mass transport point of view is the cell membrane since it represents the physical barrier to the transport of nutrients into and out of the cell. 4. 4. Experimental nerve injury : induced pain : mechanisms and modulation

    Författare :Johan Wallin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Chronic nerve injury-induced pain presents a therapeutic challenge since such pain is often resistant to conventional analgesic drugs including opioids. Better knowledge of the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying nerve injuryinduced pain is necessary to develop new and more efficacious therapies. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Clothing Evaporative Resistance: Its Measurements and Application in Prediction of Heat Strain

    Författare :Faming Wang; Ergonomi och aerosolteknologi; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; thermal manikin; clothing ensemble; evaporative resistance; localised evaporative resistance; thermophysiological response; heat stress; heat strain; the Predicted Heat Strain PHS model;

    Sammanfattning : Clothing evaporative resistance is one of the most important inputs for both the modelling and for standards dealing with thermal comfort and heat stress. It might be determined on guarded hotplates, on sweating manikins or even on human subjects. LÄS MER
