  1. 1. Towards a detailed understanding of the red blood cell storage lesion : and its consequences for in vivo survival following transfusion

    Författare :Andreas Hult; Christer Malm; Per-Arne Oldenborg; Martin L. Olsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Red blood cell; erythrocyte; transfusion; macrophage; phagocytosis; storage lesion; eryptosis; Class A scavenger receptor; transfusion medicine; transfusionsmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : Red blood cells (RBCs) are vital for oxygen delivery to tissues and constitute the vast majority of all cells in blood. After leaving the red bone marrow as mature cells, RBCs have a lifespan of approximately 120 days before they are removed from the circulation by macrophages, mainly in the spleen and liver. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Lipid storage and secretion. Studies on VLDL assembly and foam cell formation

    Författare :Björn Magnusson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :ADP-ribosylation factor 1; very low density lipoprotein; lipid droplet; adipocyte differentiation-related protein; hypoxia; foam cell;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with formation of two factors of upmost importance for the development of atherosclerosis: the triglyceride rich very low density lipoproteins 1 (VLDL1) and the lipid loaded macrophages ("foam cells"- characteristic features of the atherosclerotic lesion). Both these processes depend on the cellular accumulation of lipids. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Development of new blood banking strategies for processing and storage of red blood cell components

    Författare :Linda Larsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The field of red blood cell (RBC) components has been quite uneventful during the last few decades, save for the experimental exploration of alternative additive solution compositions. The reason is likely that the RBC quality has been good enough and the shelf-life of conventional RBC concentrates (RCC) has been long enough to not really motivate the workload that any dramatic changes would implicate. 4. 4. Genetic variation in resistance to fungal storage diseases in apple : inoculation-based screening, transcriptomics and biochemistry

    Författare :Masoud Ahmadi Afzadi; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Apple is one of the economically and culturally most important fruit crops and has many health-related benefits. Apple production is, however, sensitive to several fungal diseases including blue mold, caused by Penicillium expansum. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Evaluation of the DIAGNOdent method for detection and quantification of carious lesions : in vitro and in vivo studies

    Författare :Mohammad Shaikh Bamzahim; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The sites most susceptible to dental caries are the occlusal surfaces and the margins of existing restorations. These are also the sites at which lesion detection by conventional methods is most unsatisfactory. LÄS MER
