11. On the long-term behaviour of tension loaded piles in natural soft soils
Sammanfattning : The complexity and scale of new infrastructure projects have challenged the current geotechnical design practice. Urban areas are growing at a fast pace in the horizontal and vertical direction, with taller buildings and deeper underground constructions in already densely populated areas. LÄS MER
12. Francisella tularensis: persistence, dissemination and source attribution : a theoretical and computational approach
Sammanfattning : The bacterium Francisella tularensis causing tularemia in humans and other mammals displays little genetic diversity among genomes across temporal and spatial scales. F. tularensis infects humans with an extremely low infectious dose and causes natural seasonal tularemia outbreaks. LÄS MER
13. Enhancing Short-Term Traffic Prediction for Large-Scale Transport Networks by Spatio-Temporal Clustering
Sammanfattning : Congestion in large cities is responsible for extra travel time, noise, air pollution, CO2 emissions, and more. Transport is one of the main recognized contributors to global warming and climate change, which is getting increasing attention from authorities and societies around the world. LÄS MER
14. Long-term development, modeling and management of nutrient loading to inland and coastal waters
Sammanfattning : Environmental and water system protection and restoration require accurate knowledge and quantification of waterborne pollutant transport, retention-release and transformation processes taking place in the subsurface, river, lake and sea water systems, and at the interfaces between these systems. This thesis investigates the importance of spatial model resolution for such quantification and the possible long-term nutrient load development under different human perturbations and nutrient source management scenarios in the Swedish Norrström drainage basin, based on simulations with the GIS-based dynamic nutrient transport-attenuation model POLFLOW. 15. Formation, partitioning and interactions of organic iodides under severe nuclear accident conditions
Sammanfattning : During severe nuclear reactor accidents such as Chernobyl or Fukushima large amounts of radioactive iodine can be released in form of inorganic and organic iodine species into the environment. Volatile radioactive iodine species are harmful to human health when inhaled. LÄS MER
