  1. 21. The hepatitis C virus and immune escape : relation between sequence variations and the in vitro and in vivo functionality of the non-structural 3/4A complex

    Författare :Jonas Söderholm; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :HCV; NS3; HLA-A2; viral fitness; DNA vaccine;

    Sammanfattning : The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a blood-borne virus responsible for a major part of liver transplants is the US, and 3% of the population world-wide is infected globally. HCV belongs to the Hepacivirus genus of the Flaviviridae family and is transmitted through infectious blood or blood products. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Development of a therapeutic vaccine against the hepatitis C virus

    Författare :Gustaf Ahlén; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :HCV; NS3; DNA vaccine; electroporation;

    Sammanfattning : The hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is a major cause of liver disease and it is estimated that 170 million people worldwide are chronically infected by HCV. There are no protective or curable vaccines available for HCV, however treatment consisting of interferon-α and ribavirin is curative in 45-75% of the chronic infected patients, depending on the viral genotype. 3. 23. Clinical and molecular features of chronic hepatitis C infection and advanced liver disease

    Författare :Nogol Rahbin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to study molecular and clinical aspects of hepatitis C infection (HCV), especially in patients with advanced liver disease. In the first study we investigated whether the use of a second generation contrast agent in ultrasound (US) examinations can improve detection of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and characterisation of focal liver lesions in 49 HCV-infected patients with liver cirrhosis. 4. 24. Improving immunogenicity of hepatitis B and C viral proteins for vaccine design

    Författare :Antony Chen; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The hepatitis B and C virus (HBV, HCV) both presents a global health challenge, with an estimated 350 million individuals chronically infected with HBV and over 200 million infected with HCV. Reported cases of HBV and HCV have declined significantly due to screening of blood products and the availability of HBV vaccination. LÄS MER
